Le'Veon Bell suffered a concussion
Tuesday, December 3, 2013, 8:52am

ESPN New York - [Full Article]

A violent goal-line collision in a 22-20 loss to the Ravens left Le'Veon Bell concussed, but the Steelers' rookie running back did some running Monday and is hopeful of playing Sunday against the visiting Dolphins.

"I'm going to take it day by day and see where we're at," Bell said. "The goal is obviously to play, but if [I'm] not able to, I'm not able to."

Bell and Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith rammed helmets when they met near the goal line as the former tried to score on a 1-yard touchdown run. Bell fell forward and into the end zone even though the force of the collision caused his helmet to pop off.

Fantasy Impact:

The played was ruled a TD at first but was reversed because his helmet came off before crossing the goal line. He doesn't remember the hit but said he hasn't experienced side effects. Speaking Tuesday, Tomlin said Bell "looked good." His fate is in the hands of NFL protocol, however. The Steelers would likely rely on a committee of Felix Jones and Jonathan Dwyer in Week 14.

CBS Pittsburgh - [Full Article]

The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived running back Isaac Redman and promoted LB Kion Wilson from the practice squad.

Redman began training camp expecting to compete for the starting job but struggled to stay healthy.

He managed just 12 yards on 10 carries this season and saw his playing time decrease behind rookie Le’Veon Bell and veterans Felix Jones and Jonathan Dwyer.

Fantasy Impact:

Redman is the odd man out. He survived at first when the team cut Jonathan Dwyer after trading for Felix Jones after Le'Veon Bell hurt his foot. But with Bell back healthy the Steelers had one too many backs and this time it's Redman who gets released.

Monday, September 30, 2013, 3:37pm

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - [Full Article]

With Steelers rookie RB Le'Veon Bell active for the first time, the Steelers made Redman inactive. It means Felix Jones and Jonathan Dwyer have moved ahead of him on the depth chart.

Fantasy Impact:

Bell scored two TDs in his debut and it seems like the Steelers wanted him back desperately to carry the load going forward.

Glazer: Le'Veon Bell to play Week 4
Tuesday, September 24, 2013, 9:32am

Jay Glazer on Twitter - [Full Article]

Steelers are now planning to play RB LeVeon Bell this week.

Fantasy Impact:

The Steelers say Bell has progressed faster than they thought, according to Glazer. It's amazing how that can happen when you're 0-3 with not much of a running game - Bell was originally planning to play Week 6 after a Week 5 bye. Don't be surprised if Bell gets a lot of the workload, but it's also likely Felix Jones and Jonathan Dwyer see time as well against the Vikings, with the likely scenario being Isaac Redman is inactive, according to other reports. Bell could be a RB3 option when our rankings come out Wednesday. Keep in mind it's a struggling offensive line, but he does have long term value and will likely get a lot of work going forward as long as he can stay healthy. It could be the shot in the arm the Steelers need.

Tomlin: 'I was encouraged by Felix Jones'
Wednesday, September 18, 2013, 10:13am

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - [Full Article]

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin did not find many positives from the game, but he singled out running back Felix Jones, who had 37 yards on 10 carries and played 36 of the team's 58 offensive snaps. The Steelers ran for just 44 yards and 75 yards through two games.

"The running game was below the line," he said. "But I was encouraged by Felix Jones and what he'll be able to do moving forward. He knew when to bounce it and when to put his foot in the ground and get vertical. There were some things we can build upon."

Fantasy Impact:

Jones is a decent waiver add for owners desperate for bodies at RB. He has a career 4.8 YPC, but was a woeful 3.6 YPC with the Cowboys in 2012. Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman are in the mix, but Redman has been unimpressive and the team chose Jones over Dwyer at the final roster cutdown.

Tuesday, September 10, 2013, 9:30pm

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - [Full Article]

Felix Jones was the Steelers' best running back after he joining them for the final two preseason games, but he didn't get a carry Sunday in part because of his lack of knowledge about the offense.

“He just needs to continue to learn,” HC Mike Tomlin said.

Fantasy Impact:

Jones could also lose time to Jonathan Dwyer, who was resigned and obviously is more familiar with the offense.

Isaac Redman will start Week 2
Tuesday, September 10, 2013, 4:08pm

ESPN - [Full Article]

Isaac Redman said that, despite coming off his worst game as a professional, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin still had confidence in him.

The veteran running back apparently was right.

Redman will start at running back Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals despite fumbling twice and rushing for just nine yards on eight carries in Pittsburgh's 16-9 season-opening loss to the Tennessee Titans.

"Obviously he played a bad game," Tomlin said Tuesday at his weekly news conference. "He'll be given an opportunity to redeem himself."

Fantasy Impact:

Don't expect a lot from Redman behind an offensive line that isn't very good heading into Week 2. On top of that, it's a pretty tough matchup against a solid Bengals defense. Felix Jones and Jonathan Dwyer could also figure in on the workload.

Ed Bouchette on Twitter - [Full Article]

Steelers will resign RB Jonathan Dwyer.

Fantasy Impact:

The Steelers RB situation isn't good and it shows how desperate they are bring back Dwyer after cutting him just over a week ago. La'Rod Stephens-Howling is done for the year and both Isaac Redman and Felix Jones struggled in various aspects in Week 1. Dwyer could see time in Week 2 at Cincy, but it also looks like a situation to stay away from, on top of it being a tough matchup.

Beat: Felix Jones expected to start
Monday, September 2, 2013, 9:19am

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - [Full Article]

Steelers RB Felix Jones is expected to start the season opener against Tennessee next Sunday after rushing for 56 yards on 14 carries Thursday against Carolina.

Fantasy Impact:

It's a bit of a surprise after the team kept Isaac Redman over Jonathan Dwyer. Jones made a quick impression on the Steelers, and even if he starts, Redman should still figure into the game plan. But it does seem like Jones will as well, and this looks like a true committee situation - along with LaRod Stephens-Howling probably playing on third downs.

Steelers cut Jonathan Dwyer
Saturday, August 31, 2013, 4:54pm

CBS Sports - [Full Article]

The Steelers released Jonathan Dwyer Saturday, eight days after they traded for former Cowboys first-rounder-turned-castoff Felix Jones. Pittsburgh gave Jones plenty of work in the final two preseason games and apparently he did enough to earn a roster spot -- at Dwyer's expense.

Dwyer, the former sixth-round pick of of Georgia Tech, arrived at training camp 20 pounds lighter, and looked impressive during the preseason. But the Steelers drafted Le'Veon Bell in the second round of the April draft, and even though he's sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a mid-foot sprain, coach Mike Tomlin felt good enough about Isaac Redman, LaRod Stephens-Howlingand Felix Jones to move forward without Dwyer.

Fantasy Impact:

This is a somewhat surprising move considering Bell is still on the shelf, but the team apparently tired of Dwyer's attitude and liked Jones enough to make the move. This might also bode well for Bell, who is already out of his walking boot.

Isaac Redman likely to start for Steelers
Tuesday, August 27, 2013, 12:16pm

4for4 Scout Dale Lolley on Twitter - [Full Article]

As expected Isaac Redman, not Jonathan Dwyer, will be starting RB for Steelers if LeVeon Bell doesn't play opening week.

Fantasy Impact:

Redman (stinger) will sit out third straight preseason game. HC Mike Tomlin plans to look at Jonathan Dwyer, LaRod Stephens-Howling, Felix Jones. He added that the team knows what it will get from Redman and he wanted to look at the other backs. Redman likely won't carry a full load and this could be another committee situation until Bell is back.

Thursday, August 22, 2013, 8:31pm

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - [Full Article]

Steelers RB Isaac Redman moved ahead of Jonathan Dwyer on the depth chart, in part, because Dwyer reported for spring practices weighing an estimated 260 pounds. He is down about 25 pounds after HC Mike Tomlin expressed considerable disappointment with his conditioning.

Dwyer is the team's leading rusher with 83 yards on 20 carries in two preseason games, including 68 yards against the Redskins.

Fantasy Impact:

Dwyer looked pretty shifty on Monday night while Redman sat out with a stinger. It remains to be seen how the team will split up the touches while Le'Veon Bell is sidelined. This could devolve into an ugly RBBC.

Steelers believe Le'Veon Bell has Lisfranc injury, may avoid surgery
Wednesday, August 21, 2013, 2:24pm

Jay Glazer, Twitter - [Full Article]

Steelers believe Le'Veon Bell has Lisfranc injury. They are hoping will not require surgery but won't be sure until he gets it double checked.

Adam Schefter added: "Steelers rookie RB Le'Veon Bell is expected to be out six weeks with a Lisfranc injury."

Fantasy Impact:

Ouch. This is very bad news for Bell owners. Six weeks doesn't completely kill his value, and depending on the discount, he may be worth a later pick. Isaac Redman was running ahead of Jonathan Dwyer for most of camp, but Dwyer looked good on Monday night while Redman sat out with a stinger. This could devolve into a RBBC with Dwyer, Redman and LaRod Stephens-Howling in on third downs. Dwyer and Redman are only worth late-round fliers until we get more clarity on the pecking order. We've moved Bell down to #49 in standard formats, but will revisit his projection as more information becomes available.

Le'Veon Bell leaves MNF with foot injury
Monday, August 19, 2013, 9:01pm

Pro Football Talk - [Full Article]

Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell didn’t last long in his first NFL game before heading to the trainers. Bell carried the ball four times on the Steelers first offensive drive, but Jonathan Dwyer was on the field with the offense for the Steelers second possession.

Bell, meanwhile, was on the bench getting looked at by trainers. The Steelers announced that Bell was done for the night because of a right foot injury a short time later, ending his first NFL game action almost as quickly as it started.

Fantasy Impact:

The injury is being called a mid-foot sprain by the Steelers, which of course opens the door to Lisfranc. Bell missed the first preseason game because of a left knee injury and then was in and out of practice last week for the same reason. If Bell, who was running a lot with the first team, was to miss time, Dywer and Isaac Redman move up on the depth chart as well as LaRod Stephens-Howling. At this point, all indications are that Redman is ahead of Dwyer, but Dwyer looked pretty good last night (68 yards on 14 carries), while Redman (stinger) was held out.
