Browns sign Nate Burleson to a one-year deal
Monday, April 7, 2014, 11:28am
Burleson, who spent the past four seasons in Detroit, will provide the Browns with some depth and an experienced veteran who can help mentor young receivers such as Josh Gordon. In 2011, he won the Lions' Good Guy Award from the local sportscasters and Pro Football Writers Association and was a leader in the locker room.
The Browns also signed Andrew Hawkins to man the slot, so Burleson is likely to be the team's WR4 assuming they find a starter in the draft. If not, he is capable of starting opposite Gordon, though he doesn't offer much playmaking ability at this point in his career. Greg Little's days in Cleveland look to be numbered.

Nate Burleson intends to play in Week 12
Wednesday, November 20, 2013, 11:29am
The 11-year veteran hasn't played since Week 3 after breaking his left forearm in a one-vehicle crash on I-696 on Sept. 24, but he's practiced on a limited basis for the past two weeks.
For Burleson not to play Sunday, there would have to be a "major setback," he said.
"My mindset is that I want to play," Burleson said. "I've still got to meet with the doctors this week, still got to get clearance. I'm not saying that I am playing for sure, but in my mind, I'm going to wake up tomorrow in preparation to be on the field and get into the game plan and try to play on Sunday."
Burleson was the #42 WR in standard formats through three weeks, but ranked #29 in PPR formats, so he could be useful down the stretch provided he plays a full complement of snaps. Kris Durham has played pretty well in his place, so Burleson may be eased into the lineup.

“I’m saying there’s a chance,” Burleson said. “Like I said a couple weeks ago, I prepare every week as if I’m going to play. I want to play, I want to get out on the field. Still got to be smart and listen to the doctors and listen to the coaches, but the week started off good, getting into the gameplan and trying to figure out if I got a role this week, which looks like there’s a possibility.”
As the story pointed out, Burleson broke his forearm in two places Sept. 24 when he crashed his car into a median while trying to save two pizzas from sliding off his passenger seat. He has missed seven straight games, but practiced the last two weeks and has suffered no setbacks with his injury. Burleson, the Lions’ leading receiver with 19 catches for 239 yards at the time of the accident, plans to wear a Kevlar brace on his arm when he returns and said he’ll have to modify the way he plays.

Don't forget, with the Thanksgiving Day game on the horizon, the Lions will play their next two games — against Tampa Bay and then Green Bay — in the next 11 days. Barring any setbacks next week, Burleson should be back to full strength and able to play in both of those games. Burleson is worth taking a shot on if you're hurting at WR. The Lions face some tough rushing defenses down the stretch which could mean more throwing opportunities.

Still, Burleson could be close to coming back. He'd be a real nice boost as a solid WR2 option for QB Matt Stafford and should provide some fantasy value in what's a heavy passing offense. He's a guy to monitor heading into Week 11.
