Patriots NT Vince Wilfork said he wants to remain a Patriot, and “I said that from Day 1, and I’m still backing up those words. If that wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t have been out there playing for this team this year. I could’ve easily been sitting out and wanting my money and trying to prove a point, but that’s not me.
“I said I’m loyal to my word, and I stuck by my word - I want to be a Patriot - but that’s not up to me.’’
Wilfork could be hit with the franchise tag, a one-year offer for the average of the top five salaries at a player’s position. That would allow the team to match any free agent offer or receive two first-round picks if its declines to match. The tag restricts a player’s market as an unrestricted free agent.
