Panthers WR Steve Smith injures finger, but not broken

WR Steve L Smith was carted off the field after injuring his finger in practice, but a team source told Carolina Growl it’s not broken.

The source said Smith’s hand was cut, but there are no broken bones.

That’s great news for the Panthers.

Smith was taken to the locker room for x-rays near the end of a three-hour padded practice.

Coach Ron Rivera initially feared Smith might have dislocated his finger, but x-rays were negative.

The injury happened late in practice. He went down early in practice after a collision and it took him awhile to get back up, but he did return to practice.

“I’m not sure if it was dislocated or sprained or whatever,” Rivera said initially after practice. “But they wanted to check it out and may get an x-ray. They just told me they had to take him up (to the locker room) so I’m assuming it might involve an x-ray.”
