Panthers' Stewart eager to get back on field

Rock Hill Herald - [Full Article]

It wasn't a fast run, more like an aggressive jog.
But for Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart, Tuesday's semi-sprints at the end of practice were nearly the extent of his work this summer. For the second year in a row, he was unable to participate in any practices during minicamp or summer school. Last year, it was his surgically repaired left big toe. This year, it's his left Achilles tendon, sore from compensating for the original injury. He said the problem “lingered throughout the season,” and “kind of flared up,” this offseason after working out. He said he didn't envision it keeping him from participating in training camp later this summer, but he didn't envision the toe slowing him as much as it did last year.
“I'm pretty much staying off of it to just kind of let it heal,” Stewart said. “It's just a matter of getting it well. I think the trainers had in mind ‘let's get it up to the best of its abilities for camp.'”
The fact he was able to perform as well as he did last year was remarkable, considering he had precious little time to practice.
