Palm Beach Post: The Dolphins had high hopes for WR Derek Hagan
when they selected him with the #82 pick of the 2006 draft. But
Hagan never lived up to expectations, failing to even find a spot
on the 45-man active roster in four of the past five games. Today,
the Dolphins released him, an NFL source confirmed. Hagan, 24,
leaves the Dolphins with just 53 catches, 3 TDs and one start in 2
1/2 seasons. Blessed with excellent size (6-2, 215) and leaping
ability, Hagan seemed to possess the skill set of an NFL receiver.
He also had the resume. Hagan earned All-America honors at Arizona
State, where he finished his career first in Pac-10 in receptions
and second in receiving yards. When he arrived in Miami, Hagan
displayed a bad habit of dropping passes, which tested the
confidence of coaches.
