Manning is "questionable" after "fine" practice

Eli Manning was officially listed as questionable on the Giants’ injury report today, meaning we’re really no closer to knowing whether he’ll play on Sunday.

And according to Tom Coughlin, it’s likely nobody will be sure until just a few hours before the game.

The signs are encouraging, though, after Manning “did fine” in his first practice of the week today. Coughlin said Manning took about half the snaps with the first-team offense, but the guarded coach revealed little more than that. Asked if Manning reported any discomfort, Coughlin said “Not that I’m going to mention to you.”

Manning, in an unusual move for a normally cooperative player, declined through a team spokesman to address the media after practice.

Coughlin did say he was “absolutely” encouraged by Manning’s limited participation and that he remained “hopeful” for Sunday. The key will be how Manning’s injured right heel responds to the practice, both in the next few hours and when he wakes up tomorrow morning.
