Lions kicker Swayze Waters had a tight hamstring and was held out of morning practice at training camp. So the Lions turned to veteran receiver Dane Looker, who has experience kicking in practice.
Looker wowed everyone. He converted all four attempts from at least 30 yards and closed by converting a 43-yarder into the wind that easily had enough distance.
“The players wanted to move him back,” coach Jim Schwartz said. “They said, ‘Move him back to 50 right there.’ But I said, ‘Let’s let him end on a make.’ “
