Is Keith Null getting closer to playing QB for the Rams?

For several weeks, Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo has insisted there are no current plans to get playing time for rookie quarterback Keith Null. However, with starter Kyle Boller bothered by a thigh injury, there might not be any choice.

Null took the majority of snaps with the first unit Thursday, as the team continued preparations for Sunday’s game in Tennessee against the Titans. Wednesday, Boller took most of the reps, although Null did get time with the first team.

Asked if he is concerned about Boller’s status for Sunday, Spagnuolo said, “I am always concerned about guys, but Kyle is a pretty tough guy. He had to back off so we can get him to Sunday. Yesterday, he did more for most of the practice and it might have set him back, so the idea was to not set him back anymore.”

As for the readiness of Null, Spagnuolo said, “He took some reps here today so we’ll go back in and evaluate the film. He gets closer the more reps he gets.”

And the chances of Null getting playing time Sunday? The coy Spagnuolo said, “If Kyle is healthy, Kyle is going to play. That is the way it is.”
