Jim Irsay: RB Marlon Mack has chance to be 'special'

Colts owner Jim Irsay is very high on the ‘young explosive playmakers’ for the Colts. That includes Marlon Mack, who Irsay thinks could rush for 1,500 yards, if the second-year runner gets 16–20 carries a game. “I think Mack has a chance to be a special guy this year,” Irsay said. “He’s just better than you think he is every time you watch him play.”

Fantasy Impact:

In Frank Reich's last three seasons as an offensive coordinator, the lead RB received less than 16 touches per game, let alone carries. This is likely owner hyperbole, as evidenced by Irsay also calling Jacoby Brissett the best back-up QB in the league (didn't watch the Super Bowl, apparently). However, Mack doesn't need 16-20 carries to return on investment with an ADP near the round 7-8 turn. Frank Gore vacated 290 touches from a year ago. What may be more notable is that Irsay seems to believe Mack is the starting RB. The second-year back is one to monitor this preseason in what could be a potent offense with Andrew Luck's return.
