Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell was hired in January and has informed Maruice Jones-Drew’s camp he would not talk contract until later in the season or afterward.
“I really learned that through my first year in Atlanta and the approach we took,” Caldwell says. “We need a full year’s body of work to be around the guys to see what they do on the field and how they conduct themselves in the locker room, community, everything to say, ‘Hey, this is a guy we want to invest in for the future.’ ”
Says Jones-Drew: “That didn’t bother me.”
MJD's contract was a distraction heading into the 2012 season, but it appears that it won't be much of an issue in 2013.
