Jags likely to be without Sims-Walker, Mathis, Henderson

Count on the Jaguars playing Sunday’s game against the Dolphins without cornerback Rashean Mathis, defensive tackle John Henderson and receiver Mike Sims-walker.

All three are listed as doubtful on the club’s latest injury report.

“We’re gonna do the best we can do with the players we have available,” Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said.

Mathis will likely be sidelined with a groin injury, while a shoulder ailment and a strained calf are likely to keep Henderson and Sims-Walker out of action.

Mathis practiced Friday in a limited capacity, but the staff doesn’t want to risk further injury to the strained groin that has kept the cornerback out of action the past three games. Mathis said earlier this week that his availability will be a game-time decision, but a “doubtful” listing means there’s a 75 percent chance he won’t play, according to NFL injury reporting guidelines. Henderson sustained his injury in last week’s game against the Texans. Del Rio said Montavious Stanley will take Henderson’s place in the lineup.

Sims-Walker, meanwhile, strained his left calf during Wednesday’s practice. Rookie Mike Thomas will likely play in Sims-Walker’s place. But the club made Thomas a late addition to the injury report (probable) after practice Friday. During the session, trainers worked with Thomas on the sidelines to stretch his injured hamstring.

“All you can do is play your next guys [on the depth chart],” Del Rio said. “We need everybody and we expect every guy that gets an opportunity to play to step up. It’s a big game.”
