Gruden: WR Josh Doctson must 'earn' more playing time

Equally puzzling was Jay Gruden’s limited use of Josh Doctson, the Redskins’ first-round draft pick in 2016 who was projected to be such a difference-maker that the front office let two of Cousins’s more reliable targets, DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, depart in free agency.

Doctson was on the field for just 20 of the team’s 63 offensive snaps Sunday and was never targeted on a throw. Pressed Monday about Doctson’s limited workload, Gruden indicated that he felt the former No. 1 pick still needed to “earn” the right to get game-day opportunities.

Fantasy Impact:

Gruden added he thinks Doctson is ready to go, but said he has to play well to earn more time. Doctson hasn't practiced a whole lot between this season and last season, Gruden also pointed out. Gruden did add Doctson will get more work this week.
