Gonzalez caught a lot of praise from QB Matt Ryan

TE Tony Gonzalez, likely a Hall of Fame member someday, shook off some rust while making his Falcons debut during mini-camp on Friday. “I haven’t run anything since the Pro Bowl,” Gonzalez said. “Besides, my head was spinning a little bit from learning all of the language of this offense.” Gonzalez ran his routes with the grace of an oversized ballet dancer and plucked Matt Ryan’s passes out of the air with ease. It was a delightful sight to the Falcons coaches, who have been on a mission to find a pass-catching tight end who can block and run vertical routes. “It’s big for us to pick up Tony,” Ryan said. “He’s one of the greatest players of all time.” “I’ve been very impressed,” Ryan said. During the drills, Ryan acknowledged throwing more passes to the tight end position. “Anytime that you get a new toy, you want to try it out,” Ryan said. “I threw a couple of balls his way, and he didn’t disappoint. He made some good catches. He does a great job of getting open. I’m just excited to have him here.”
