Giants WR Mario Manningham was targeted on the first three plays of the game and didn’t catch either of the two balls that weren't deflected at the line. One was definitely due to a bad route (judging by the look on Eli Manning’s face). The other might have been because of a route run a little too deep (hard to tell without having the playbook).

After that, and presumably a few more mistakes on the next series, he lost his job as the No. 2 receiver to Victor Cruz. He’s just coming off a concussion, so maybe he deserves a pass here. He’s also probably got more upside than Cruz, so it’s doubtful he’ll lose his job permanently even though he’ s never been particularly crisp with his routes. Still, you have to wonder if the Giants aren’t better off for the moment with Cruz on the outside and Manningham coming in as the third receiver. It'll be interesting to see what direction they choose to go this week.
