Colts DB Bob Sanders returns to practice

Safety Bob Sanders took at least a small step Wednesday toward his much-anticipated return to the Indianapolis Colts lineup: He crossed the sideline and got on the football field.

The 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year didn't participate in all drills but was on the field for a full-scale practice for the first time this season as the Colts began preparations for a nationally televised game Sunday night at Tennessee.

Jim Caldwell characterized Sanders' limited participation as "ramping up his activity," but the Colts coach declined to say if Sanders might play Sunday.

"At this point, I would not be able to tell you that in earnest," Caldwell said.
