As Whisenhunt has stated repeatedly, the Cardinals are a better football team with Anquan Boldin on the field. No question. But they’re also pretty dang good without him, as we saw Sunday and on several other occasions the last couple of years.
That’s why it’s highly unlikely Boldin gets the contract extension he’s been craving. The Cardinals have more-than-capable understudies ready to step in, and it’s hard to tie up that much money in a receiving corp (Larry Fitzgerald already signed a $40 million four-year deal, and his contract will be up in 2011, when he is just 28 and will command even more money).
Boldin could even be traded during the offseason if the Cards don’t want to deal with the drama that could unfold as he enters the final year of his contract in 2010.
