Adrian Peterson indicted, deactivated for Sunday

Sources told FOX 26 Sports Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted in Montgomery County for reckless or negligent injury to a child.

The Vikings have officially deactivated Peterson for this week's game against the Patriots.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network: Arrest of Adrian Peterson stems from the disciplining of a son with a switch, source says. He’s been indicted. The investigation has been going on for some time, source says. He testified for a grand jury weeks ago. The Vikings say they are gathering info, deferring questions to his lawyer.

Tom Pelissero (NFL writer based in MN): As of about 2 hours ago, Adrian Peterson was in the Vikings locker room. He missed practice yesterday but was back today. He will eventually have to post bond following the indictment, but doesn't sound like there's a clear timeline for that yet.

Fantasy Impact:

The more we hear, the uglier this story looks. For now, Peterson is out this week, and we wouldn't be surprised if this turns into an extended absence. In the meantime, Matt Asiata will likely get the bulk of the work. Third round pick Jerick McKinnon will also likely be in the mix. McKinnon is probably the better talent, but we doubt the Vikings are willing to give him a heavy workload right away. There's no doubt there will be more to come as this story develops.
