Dead Weight Report: Week 9 Droppables

At this point in the season, it’s time to get serious about your roster moving forward. Whether they’ve made the starting lineup or have been hanging out on the bench, we all have players who’ve underperformed. Should you hang on to them for another week or cut them loose now?

In this weekly article, I comb through the weak and underwhelming performances to see who’s droppable in favor of some waiver wire magic. There are many variables in determining a player’s remaining worth, including their own production, offense and health among others, and all will be taken into consideration when determining each week’s dead weight.

Jimmy Graham, TE – Packers

There are 79% of you still hoping 2011–2014 Graham walks through the door but it’s pretty clear that’s not happening. The Green Bay tight end has yet to eclipse 65 yards in a contest this season and even that season-high total came in a game without the services of Davante Adams. With their star wideout set to return soon, Graham’s volume will take even more of a hit as we head down the homestretch of the 2019 season.

I know the tight end position is a thin one, but there are options out there with more upside and guaranteed volume than Graham.

Keke Coutee, WR – Texans

In Week 8, Coutee was dressed and ready to rock but did not play in favor of DeAndre Carter. It’s tough to tell if this is a permanent change, but there are too many mouths to feed in the Houston offense to count on Coutee these days. Will Fuller should return soon, and Kenny Stills’ field-stretching prowess is more desirable for fantasy purposes. Plus, we have the emergence of Darren Fells, which leaves Coutee as someone destined for the waiver wire.

Look to add a player with less competition on his own team such as Chris Conley, Auden Tate or Cole Beasley.

Demarcus Robinson, WR – Chiefs

While we’re on the subject of players on offenses with too many weapons, there are still too many of you rostering Robinson. He hasn’t posted more than 43 receiving yards since Week 2 and has only found the end zone once in that same time frame. With Tyreek Hill healthy, Mecole Hardman carving out a nice role for himself, Sammy Watkins back in the mix, and a guy named Travis Kelce at tight end, there’s nothing left for Robinson.

The rookie is currently sitting on 26% of your benches, and even with bye week needs, he shouldn’t be. Hit that waiver wire and pluck out a receiver with more consistent volume in their respective offense.

Derrius Guice, RB – Redskins

With an IR designation, the earliest Guice could see on-field action is two weeks after he’s activated. So even if he’s activated this week, the soonest he could be fantasy relevant would be Week 11. Washington's offense is straight-up terrible, plus they face the Eagles' stout run defense in a key Week 15 matchup that could decide your fantasy championship game.

If you’re already a lock for the playoffs and want to keep Guice on your bench for potential postseason usage then that’s fine, but if you are in a situation where you need wins now, cut him loose for guaranteed usage.

Nelson Agholor, WR – Eagles

Agholor made this column before and he's here once again. Too many people are still rostering the Eagles wideout considering his lack of production. Somehow, he managed to catch four balls for just seven yards in Week 8, which is pretty hard to do as an NFL wide receiver.

With DeSean Jackson’s return imminent and his lack of output when actually targeted, Agholor has very little fantasy value, if any. Do your roster a favor and grab a receiver who’s going to contribute to your squad and get you one game closer to the fantasy playoffs.
