Streaming Defenses: Week 10 Targets

As discussed previously, we are rolling out a new-and-improved model this season for projecting fantasy defenses. This model focuses on the most predictable elements of defense scoring: points allowed, sacks and interceptions. To project points in each of those areas, we rely on the Vegas lines, quarterback history of interceptions and the offensive and defense history of producing sacks. Below, we will look at what those elements say for Week 10.

Looking Backward

Unusually, our highest projected streaming option, the Jets, were the worst performer last week. They had four sacks, but with no interceptions and 26 points allowed (versus 18 expected), they underperformed our projection by about three points.

The Panthers, our second option, were the sole pick to outperform. They had four sacks and two interceptions, though they allowed two points more than expected. Overall, their score of nine points from the predictable elements was the second-highest of any defense on the week.

Our third pick, the Eagles, also slightly underperformed. They had three sacks and allowed only 14 points, five fewer than Vegas expected, but with no interceptions, they came in slightly under the projection.

Overall, however, none of the picks did poorly. With the other types of points included (specifically, safeties and fumble recovers) all three gave respectable results.
