Streaming Tight Ends: Week 3 Targets

Flip the calendars to Week 3—it’s time to evaluate your roster choices and gauge if the tight end you drafted is worthy of starting or if you’re better off hitting the waiver wire in search of a better option. If you purposely approached drafting the TE position with the intention of streaming weekly, I’ve got you covered there, too. As a strategy, streaming aims to find players with above-average matchups, which can hopefully translate to TE1 production for your fantasy squad.

For streaming purposes, 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed (aFPA) is a metric we rely heavily on to determine weekly matchup strength. Since aFPA requires a minimum of three-to-four weeks of data to provide truly reliable results, in these early weeks, streaming options will be selected based on a combination of opponents’ predicted fantasy points allowed, projected targets and target share, red zone volume and last season’s numbers. 4for4 rankings also come into play here and should always be considered when making league-specific roster decisions.

The goal is to roster a player who will return TE1 fantasy points. Week 2 saw two players within the top-13—Eric Ebron posted an impressive 11.6 PPR points as the TE11, followed by Baltimore’s Mark Andrews, who checked in as TE13 with 10.7 PPR points. This season’s optimal streamer has 26.7 total points thus far, good enough for TE7. My recommendations are averaging 7.1 PPR points per game as the TE18.

In order to provide advice you can actually implement, candidates for streaming must be owned in no more than 40 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues.

Top Streaming Picks

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Jaguars) vs. Titans

With five targets in each of the first two contests, ASJ is proving to be a valuable member of Jacksonville’s high-scoring offense. He’s averaging 8.4 PPR points a game in his first two starts as a Jaguar and he has one touchdown (that was not called back) so far this season.

In Week 3, ASJ gets a home tilt against a Titans defense that began 2018 as the 26th-ranked unit in TE aFPA. With the way the Jags have been putting points on the board so far, ASJ is a safe bet when it comes to potential targets and floor. At 32 percent ownership in Yahoo leagues, this may be the last week he’s streamable.
