Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 9 Fantasy Football Targets

Week 8 was a challenge to find streaming quarterback options, but we continued our hot streak, nailing two under-the-radar top-10 streamers for the week:

Josh McCown - 18.3 points (QB4)

Case Keenum - 17.5 points (QB7)

Even though he didn’t qualify under our criteria of 40 percent owned or less, we also told you Andy Dalton was available in a lot of leagues and would have been our top choice. He finished Week 8 as QB3 with 18.7 points. How tough of a week was it? Only two quarterbacks broke 20 points (Russell Wilson and DeShaun Watson’s shootout in Seattle), compared to nine in Week 7 and seven in Week 6 breaking that threshold.

For the season, our top streaming picks have averaged 23.4 fantasy points per game. That’s equivalent to the QB2 this year and just behind DeShaun Watson’s 23.6, the current QB1. The average of all of our streaming picks this season is equivalent to QB12 in fantasy points per game and QB9 in overall points.

Our standard for this exercise will always be to select only quarterbacks owned in fewer than 40 percent of Yahoo! leagues. We will use that standard as not to be accused of stretching the definition of “streamer” (plus, we like a challenge). It will also allow for similar potential on other sites.

We’ll focus on factors such as QB points per game, the opponent’s schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks (aFPA), and the Vegas implied team totals.

It’s another big bye weeks, but the only current top-12 quarterback affected is Tom Brady. Therefore, it shouldn’t be too hard to find an option. However, the available streamers’ match-ups are not great this week. It’s a challenge.

Here are those options for Week 9:

*Note - Tyrod Taylor does not qualify for this exercise this week, but he is still available in about 40 percent of leagues and has a good match-up Thursday night against the Jets. He would be the top option, if available. Jared Goff would be the next best option against the Giants, but he is only available in a little more than half of leagues this week.

Jacoby Brissett (IND) @ HOU

Houston is just 19th in our aFPA vs. QB rankings and, overall, has allowed the 4th-most points to the position (19.3 FP/G). Part of that was Russell Wilson destroying this secondary last week, but our aFPA rankings take that into account. This game also has the second highest total of the week in Vegas and what will almost assuredly be a negative game script means a better than average chance Brissett will have a high-volume day. Brissett is averaging a bit more than 16 fantasy points per game since Week 3, a very streamable number.

He is owned in 10% of Yahoo! leagues.
