DraftKings Week 6 Slate Breakdown with Cash and GPP Picks

Each week, I’ll give my overall DraftKings cash game and tournament strategy thoughts, and discuss how players fit into these strategies. By offering a general approach to the week, along with a player pool to consider, you should walk away feeling well-equipped no matter your bankroll strategy or game selection process.

Main Slate Cash Game Strategy

There are a couple of “free squares” available this week and some of the best options at quarterback are of the cheaper variety, leaving a lot of room for creativity in lineup construction. Just because salaries offer a lot of wiggle room, though, doesn’t mean that there isn’t a preferred roster build—in cash games this week, that preference looks to be a stars and scrubs approach.

Quarterback

Since becoming the starter in Week 2, Deshaun Watson ($6,700) has scored the second-most DK points among all quarterbacks, including three straight games with 25+ points. This week, the Texans are favored by 10 and projected to score over 28 points against a Browns defense ranked dead last in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. No team has allowed a higher touchdown rate through the air than Cleveland and Watson’s legs give him a heightened floor—he’s averaging over 35 rushing yards per game, or almost a passing touchdown worth of DK points. For owners who prefer to diversify, Drew Brees ($7,200) is at home coming off of a bye in a game with the highest over/under of the week (50). Detroit does rank seventh in quarterback aFPA, but 89% of New Orleans’ touchdowns have come through the air this year and only two teams have allowed more passing plays of 15+ yards than the Lions. The return of Willie Snead this week should also give this offense a boost. Paying all the way down at quarterback is always a viable option and Kevin Hogan ($4,600) is a top-two projected value at his position. Opposing passing games are highly correlated and Houston ranks 23rd in quarterback aFPA, allowing the sixth-most yards per attempt and fourth-highest touchdown rate through the air.
