Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 3 Fantasy Football Targets

Here are the three top scoring quarterbacks who have played two games so far this season: Alex Smith, Trevor Siemian and Carson Wentz. Raise your hand if you saw that coming (put your hand down). We’re already seeing how you can leverage points in leagues compared to managers that spent an early-round pick on a quarterback.

Four of the top-five scoring fantasy quarterbacks in Week 1 in standard scoring (4-point passing touchdowns, -2 for interceptions) were available in most leagues or drafted extremely late. Week 2 was similar, with four out of the top-10 highest scoring quarterbacks being potential streaming options: Wentz (QB2), Siemian (QB3), DeShaun Watson (QB7) and Smith (QB10).

Our top streaming pick in Week 2 was Alex Smith, scoring those that trusted his QB1 production from Week 1 with another 16.1 points with that QB10 Week 2. Our top streaming pick through two weeks has averaged 20.8 fantasy points, good enough to be QB5 to this point in the season.

Our standard for this exercise will always be to select only quarterbacks owned in fewer than 40 percent of Yahoo! leagues. We will use that standard as not to be accused of stretching the definition of “streamer” (plus, we like a challenge). It will also allow for similar potential on other sites.

We’ll focus on factors such as: QB points per game, the opponent’s schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks (aFPA), and the Vegas implied team totals.

Here are your QB streaming candidates for Week 3:

Trevor Siemian (DEN) @ BUF

Your current QB2 in fantasy football is a former 7th round pick. His opponent is the Bills, a team that has only allowed 21 points this season. Look closer though. Buffalo has played the Jets and a Panthers offense in search of a new identity with a quarterback coming off shoulder surgery. I’m not buying that this defense is that good. Our aFPA vs. QB rankings agree, with Buffalo ranking just 28th. Siemian, on the other hand, is averaging 22.65 points per game in two games against the Chargers and Cowboys. He has seven total touchdowns through two weeks.

Siemian is owned in just 14% of Yahoo! leagues.
