Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 12 Fantasy Football Targets

This week it’s important that we all take a moment and give thanks for the blessings we have in our lives. Often, it’s easy to take them for granted and sometimes assume the grass is always greener.

I know if I was a fan of a team with a starting quarterback drafted in the 6th round, who signed with my team for almost nothing AND later took a pay cut to stay with the team after a season with a better than 3-1 touchdown to turnover ratio and Total QBR in the top-10, I’d be thankful for that quarterback.

And if that quarterback then led our team to a 5-4 start to the season, despite a new coaching staff trading away his best weapon less than a month before the season, and still improved his passer rating from the year before? I’d really be thankful for that quarterback.

I wonder what Bills head coach Sean McDermott will be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Clearly, he isn’t thankful for Tyrod Taylor.

So this week, we dedicate our QB streamers to the criminally underrated Tyrod Taylor, who I know the fantasy football community appreciates for his production against tough odds in Buffalo.

But I digress...

Three of our picks last week scored more than 17 points, the current threshold to qualify as a QB1 this season in fantasy points per game in 12-team leagues. Those quarterbacks for Week 10 were:

Blaine Gabbert (yes, that Blaine Gabbert): 19.9 points

Ryan Fitzpatrick: 19.6 points

Case Keenum: 17.2

For the season, our top streaming picks are now averaging 23.3 fantasy points per game. That’s just below what DeShaun Watson averaged as QB1 in fantasy points per game and more than Russell Wilson is averaging as the top healthy fantasy quarterback in FP/G! The average of all of our streaming picks this season is more than Matthew Stafford is averaging as QB8 in total points.

Our standard for this exercise will always be to select only quarterbacks owned in 40 percent or fewer of Yahoo! leagues. We will use that standard as not to be accused of stretching the definition of “streamer” (plus, we like a challenge). It will also allow for similar potential on other sites.

We’ll focus on factors such as QB points per game, the opponent’s schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks (aFPA), and the Vegas implied team totals.

Here are those options for Week 12:

Tyrod Taylor (BUF) @ KC

Personally, the Bills benching Tyrod Taylor for Nathan Peterman last week against the Chargers was one of the most ludicrous things I’ve ever seen a team in contention do, even before Peterman threw five interceptions in the first half against the Chargers. If there is any sense in Buffalo this week, #TyGOAT rides again against a Chiefs team that has lost four of their last five games. Kansas City is just 27th in overall fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, and the Chiefs are 20th in aFPA against the position. Taylor amassed 18.1 fantasy points off the bench last week in just one half. Take away his one poor game against the Saints, and he’s averaged 16.7 FP/G.

Taylor is owned in 40% of Yahoo! leagues.
