FanDuel Week 1 GPP Breakdown

It’s finally time to start building GPP lineups again. Every week, I’ll be presenting my pool of favorite plays to you right here. Constructing a GPP team can be a tricky endeavor since there’s no one way to build a team, and sometimes it might be best to avoid the obvious “chalk” plays.

This year, Chris Raybon and I have put together a set of guidelines for FanDuel GPPs that is exclusive to 4for4 DFS subscribers. With those guidelines handy each week, the player profiles that you might remember from previous iterations of this column are no longer necessary -- now you can just reference the guidelines while you build your lineups.

Another change to this year’s GPP Breakdown is the chalk plays. Last year, we could pull ownership data from our Thursday lineups and easily spot the highest owned player. FanDuel is no longer releasing that information until the final game on a slate locks, so if I like a play and think he might be highly owned, I will still mention it.

Ultimately, this column will give readers a firm grasp on how they should be constructing their lineups, rather than just a handful of players to consider. In addition to the handy guidelines, always keep in mind the principles outlined in the Definitive Guide to Stacking on FanDuel, and you’ll be well on your way to the top of the leaderboard.

Quarterback

Aaron Rodgers $9,000 @ JAX - One of my favorite ways to differentiate my lineups in GPPs is to pay up for an elite player that is in a “worse” spot than players priced below him. Aaron Rodgers is the most expensive quarterback on the slate but there are three games with a higher over/under than this one and five teams with a higher projected point total than the Packers.

While most of the field is taking the perceived value of cheaper plays in games with higher projections, rostering Rodgers will give you a low-owned play at a position where that is very important, and being one of the few owners with a $9,000 signal caller will have a trickle-down effect on how unique the rest of your roster is. Early in the season is also the perfect time to target games and teams in the second tier of Vegas projections.
