Comments from Ryan Chiaverini - 6/23
Let's face it, the Bears did not have a good draft and did not make any great off-season acquisitions...except for Brian Griese.

FANTASY UPSIDE
Griese is a proven veteran and a former Pro-Bowler with a better career passer rating than Rex Grossman. It is only a matter of time before Griese takes over the starting job this year. Grossman has been injured in every season with the Bears so why will this one be any different? The Bears made it clear by signing Griese, they have lost faith in Grossman, who is yet to prove himself as a starter.

When I asked Coach Lovie Smith what he likes about Griese, he said "His numbers speak for themselves, and Brian gives us depth for right now." When he said "for right now" it sure sounded like he was implying Brian he will get his shot. I don't see the move happening in camp but as soon as Grossman gets banged up he will likely lose his job.

FANTASY DOWNSIDE
From a guy who professionally covered Brian Griese in Denver, I can tell you that Griese has had injury problems himself. You may remember the infamous "Dog incident" that sidelined him. He is not very mobile, and that also has led to injuries in the past. Griese also is a very introverted athlete and may have trouble winning over his teammates (like in Denver). He's not a bad guy, just quiet and shy... very uncharacteristic of a QB. Grossman on the other hand is more vocal and his teammates have supported his leadership abilities.

MY BOTTOM LINE
Everywhere Griese has been, he has shown that he has the ability to be a starting quarterback. He has had flashes of brilliance and has been great when called upon to come off the bench. Based on ADP data, Griese isn’t on the radar in most fantasy drafts. This makes him someone to keep an eye on as the season progresses. As soon as Grossman goes down (which is inevitable) the job will be Griese's - of course it's impossible to say whether that will be week 2 or week 10.
