TRENT GREEN QB - Chiefs

FANTASY UPSIDE
With the departure of offensive coordinator Al Saunders -- Green will be asked to assist new offensive coordinator and promoted line coach Mike Solari in running the Chiefs offense. Consider the ‘new version’ of the ‘old offense’ a hybrid of the Vermeil/Saunders scheme that’s been in place for the last half decade. Green has been involved with the Chiefs and Rams system for virtually his entire NFL career and not only knows the playbook inside and out, but knows it better than Solari. The Kansas City signal caller has a great field awareness and game day savvy that few players can match. His ability to read defenses and go smoothly through his progressions has made him an All-Pro quarterback.
FANTASY DOWNSIDE
Green doesn’t have the mobility he once did, and since his 2004 ankle injury has experienced problems adjusting to outside pressure. His top two aerial options, Tony Gonzalez and Eddie Kennison are both on the wrong side of 30, and he loses one of the leagues better receiving options out of the backfield in Priest Holmes. While the Chiefs will make every attempt in continuing to be one of the more dominating offenses in the league, Green is keenly aware that the Chiefs don’t have the necessary speed at receiver to make the current system complete.
MY BOTTOM LINE
In what should be considered a transitional stage from the Dick Vermeil and Al Saunders offense to the Herm Edwards and Solari version, Green will be more of an assistant coach and caretaker than a strong starting fantasy option. It’s likely he will be drafted as a starting option but produce numbers more representative of a reserve. Don’t count on him exceeding his draft position.
