FANTASY UPSIDE
When Drew Bledsoe signed on to quarterback the Dallas Cowboys last year it brought about a reunion between Bledsoe and Terry Glenn. Bledsoe was the man at the trigger when Glenn had his best years in New England, and those hoping for a repeat performance in Big D were not disappointed. Glenn not only matched the numbers he put up in New England – in some ways he surpassed them. His seven touchdowns and 18.3 YPC were career highs, and his 1136 receiving yards were just 11 yards shy of his personal best in 1999.
Of course you probably have heard a little bit about this year’s main addition to the Dallas offense. With Terrell Owens as a running mate Glenn should see more open field than he has ever seen before.
FANTASY DOWNSIDE
On the other hand, the aforementioned T.O. has been known to request that the ball be thrown his way every now and again. You can also bet that Jerry Jones didn’t sign Owens to be an expensive decoy. T.O. will demand and receive the ball.
Additionally there are a couple of other factors working against Glenn. He will turn 32 years old this summer, which means he is getting close to the age when many receivers lose a step. Glenn also has a history of injuries, which prompted Bill Parcells to famously refer to him as “she” during their New England days. While Glenn played all 16 games in 2005, he was only able to complete six games in 2004.
MY BOTTOM LINE
Glenn finished last year ranked 11th in the NFL in receiving yards and tied for 14th in receiving touchdowns. While the presence of T.O. can be seen as a double-edged sword, it should not preclude Glenn from approaching those numbers again this year.
While we don’t know what kind of rapport Bledsoe will develop with T.O., history tells us the connection he has with Glenn. Bledsoe and Glenn have produced countless big plays in the past, and it stands to reason that they will do so again. If Glenn’s 2006 is anything like his 2005 he will handily outperform his current Average Draft Position.
Glenn should be drafted above his Average Draft Position. I believe he will be a very serviceable No. 2 wide receiver and a spectacular No. 3 for any fantasy team.
