Comments from Ryan Chiaverini - 7/4
When the Bears neglected to draft a Tight End (the position they need most), we assume it's because they plan to utilize Desmond Clark much more than they did last year.
Lovie Smith and the Bears organization have been criticized the most for the lack of production from the tight end position.
Desmond Clark only had 229 yds receiving and 2 TD's on a run-first offense.
That mindset will not change, however I do think they will use Desmond much more this year.
FANTASY UPSIDE
He's looked great in minicamp and told me he's expecting to play a much bigger role in the offense this year. The Chicago media/fans are not the easiest bunch to please. I think the Bears will try to get him the ball more this year to prove they didn't need to draft a tight end.
FANTASY DOWNSIDE
Clark will never be a primary target in this offense. The Bears are a ground-and-pound offense that has both Thomas Jones and Cedrick Benson at tailback.
MY BOTTOM LINE
Desmond Clark’s numbers will be much better than last year but don't expect anyone to be talking pro bowl. The 4for4.com forecasting process shows him at about 250-350 yards, with a few TDs - that’s about right.
Comments from Greg Alan – Grossman and Griese can help Clark get a few more yards this year over last. Still, I’m not going to buy into him doing much more despite the fact Clark has shown me decent moves over the years for a man his size. Bottom Line? Our man Ryan C. played big-time college ball and he talks to the Bears players and staff on a frequent basis. That works for me, lets follow Ryan’s lead here.
