On a night when San Francisco's offensive stars sat out, the 49ers got more big plays on the other side of the ball to cap their first unbeaten preseason in 18 years.
Manny Lawson and rookie Taylor Mays each had interceptions and rookie Anthony Dixon ran 46 yards for a first-half touchdown in the Niners' 17-14 victory over the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night.
Jehuu Caulcrick caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Nate Davis with 8:41 left and Joe Nedney added a 25-yard field goal. San Francisco (4-0) went undefeated in its exhibition schedule for the first time since a 5-0 showing in 1992.
Coach Mike Singletary wasn't overly excited about the record considering it doesn't count.
"Trust me, I've been 4-0 before in preseason," Singletary said. "I'm very thankful the preseason is over. This game, I'm just glad to get it over with. It was a good game to win, a good game to close out on."

After visiting with the Redskins, former Eagles RB Brian Westbrook is now en route to Denver to visit the Broncos on Thursday according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Ironic if Westbrook signs with Denver as he would be potentially backing-up his former back-up Correll Buckhalter. Training camp will be the true test for Westbrook to gauge his fantasy value.

Week 17
Westbrook vs. Dallas
Westy returned to action last week and led the team with 9 carries for 32 yards and also caught two passes for short gains. He was expected to get 10-15 touches, which is a little more than easing him back in like we first thought. The Birds want to see if he's playoff ready and this week is pretty much a playoff game. I think Westbrook could see an increased workload which hurts the value of McCoy and Weaver. I don't think BWest is a RB1 or RB2 play, but could be a decent flex option with high-reward potential.

Week 16
Westbrook vs. Denver
Westbrook looks to be back this week after suffering two concussions this season. Don't expect a lot from Westy this week and because of that he'll be a risky start. I think the Birds will use the next two weeks to slowly get him up to speed and ready for the playoffs. The production from the running backs has been pretty good with Weaver and McCoy, so it will be interesting to see how Westbrook is mixed in. With the exception of scoring leagues, he's just not a good start this week.

Week 11
Westbrook vs. Chicago
Westbrook suffered another concussion Sunday, his second in 20 days, and will be out at least this week, but realistically probably more. The real threat is his career at this point and that's never talk you want to hear about any player. From a fantasy prospective, hopefully owners have backed themselves up with LeSean McCoy, who will surely see an increased role in the offense, at least in the immediate future. While it doesn't look good, I wouldn't drop Westy just yet, but be sure to keep checking his longterm status, or if he goes on IR.

Week 10
Westbrook vs. San Diego
Westbrook was a late scratch last week which came a bit of surprise. He experienced headaches but it was also revealed he had a swollen ankle. What made it worse is he was in a Sunday Night Football game and it may have left you without many options for a replacement. That's why owning backup LeSean McCoy has been key to those who own Westy. This could be a similar situation this week as Westbrook is expected to play - but we've seen this before.

Week 9
Westbrook vs. Dallas
Westbrook has been cleared to play after a concussion sidelined him last week. Westy has played well against Dallas throughout his career, averaging about 4.1 yards a carry. But he hasn't been the same old Brian Westbrook so far this season. Before getting hurt last week he look pretty slick in his couple carries. He's one of those guy you kind of have to start, but if he plays, the Eagles will surely try to get him the ball.

UPDATE
Westbrook will be inactive today and LeSean McCoy will start. It's a tough matchup against the Giants but McCoy should get a lot of touches via the rush and pass.

Week 8
Westbrook vs. NY Giants
Westbrook suffered a concussion early on against the Skins and didn’t return to action. He looked pretty good early on, if that's any consulation, as the Birds appeared like they might actually try to run the ball. Hopefully this is an indication of good things to come. But, this is just another frustrating injury to the fragile Westbrook. Be sure to check his status as the game draws closer. Hopefully you've back yourself up with McCoy.

Week 7
Westbrook vs. Washington
Westbrook probably had his best game of the season last week. However, you still have to question the Eagles for not running the ball against one of the worst rushing defenses in the league. Instead, BWest got his points via the pass and was an especially good play in PPR leagues. Still, he looked quicker, like the Westy of old, so hopefully this is a sign of similar things to come. At this point, you probably have to continue to roll with him as a starter and hopefully the Eagles will try to establish the run this week.

Week 6
Westbrook vs. Oakland
Only a touchdown saved a horrible day for Westbrook owners last week. He only got eight touches in what was a weird game - the Eagles scored on a few big plays and didn't run a lot of total plays in the game. As a result, they had a big lead and didn't establish the run. I wouldn't be too concerned about him splitting carries with McCoy, at least just yet. McCoy really only got his chances when the game was out of reach. This week, Westbrook has another good matchup, but has yet to really take advantage of any of the ones he had up to now. After this week, the defenses get a little tougher, so we'd like to see Westy put up some good numbers. This is kind of like a last chance for him, because if he puts up similar numbers to last week, you'll have to start looking at other options, I think. The good news is he's already gone public with his lack of work vs. Tampa, so this is as good a week as any for Andy Reid to try and get him going.

Week 5
Westbrook vs. Tampa Bay
It was almost like a reunion for the Eagles at practice this week as McNabb, Westbrook and Curtis all returned to practice. Westbrook has a great matchup this week against the Bucs. He hasn’t looked too good so far this season, but this is one of those games where he has to be in your lineup. I wouldn’t be concerned yet about the team wanting to give McCoy more touches to ease Westbrooks workload. We’ve heard this for years and it’s never happened. Assume Westy is the guy but keep an eye on how he progresses over the week in practice. This may be an indication of what we can expect going forward.

Week 3
Westbrook vs. Kansas City
I thought Westbrook would get used a little more than he did last week against the Saints, even before he sprained his ankle. If Westbrook is a go this week, in what is a favorable matchup, he’ll get a majority of the work. But, the problem is he’s questionable yet again, and most likely a game-time call, entering the week. If LeSean McCoy is on your waiver wire, pick him up, especially if you’re a Westbrook owner. This is a frustrating game waiting to see Westbrook’s game-time status and it eases the mind to know you have McCoy waiting in the wings to fill in. Looks like it's started already though.

Week 2
Westbrook vs. New Orleans
Westbrook saw his first action of the season without playing in a preseason game and he didn’t look too bad. The Eagles offense wasn’t needed early in the game so his touches were limited, then things quickly got out of hand before he found himself watching LeSean McCoy in the second half. He still finished with 60-plus yards and a receiving TD. Against the Saints, and with possibly no McNabb, points are going to have to be scored, so I think the Birds will look to get the ball in Westbrook’s hands a lot this week, either controlling the clock on the ground, but perhaps especially in the passing game. He’s a good start and has a great 4for4 ranking this week.

Week 1
Westbrook vs. Carolina
Westbrook hasn’t played at all this preseason, but we’ve seen this before from BWest. He actually came back a little early as far as getting his reps in at practice. So while he’s been practicing with the first team, it’s been a while since he’s seen game action. I can’t imagine Westbrook is going to see all of action we’ve been used to in the past, but I think he’s still worth a start – especially in PPR leagues. The good news is the Birds need him in the red zone, so look for LeSean McCoy to get his work in the middle of the field.
