Associated Press - [Full Article]
Although the Bengals didn't leave Orchard Park, New York with a victory on Saturday, losing 35-20 to the Buffalo Bills, they have further reason to be optimistic about their chances of success in 2010.
That's because Quarterback Carson Palmer showed he’s starting to gain chemistry with his revamped receivers.
In only three series, Palmer went 9-for-11 for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns, his first of the preseason. The starting offense finally finished after managing two touchdowns on 10 drives in its previous three games.
Just as important, Palmer distributed the ball to all three of his top receivers. He hit rookie tight end Jermaine Gresham for a 9-yard touchdown, Chad Ochocinco for a 6-yard score and Terrell Owens three times for 35 yards.
Cedric Benson had eight carries for 50 yards, but was stuffed by safety Donte Whitner in attempting to convert a fourth-and-1.

FANTASY UPSIDE
Carson Palmer put up good numbers to help Cincinnati earn a division title. The Bengals have given him some help with the acquisitions of Antonio Bryant, Jermaine Gresham and Jordan Shipley.
FANTASY DOWNSIDE
Palmer bounced back from shoulder surgery to play in every game, but his second half of the season was lackluster compared to his first half. He threw for over 230 yards only one time after Week 7. Some critics say Palmer still has not regained the arm strength he had previously.
BOTTOM LINE
Palmer is not the same quarterback he was before the Tommy John surgery. The offense centers more on the running game and even though Palmer says his throwing arm is fine, there still has to be some doubts because of his average second half of 2009. At this point, Palmer is a quality fantasy No. 2 and his 110 ADP is about where he should be taken during your draft. You might even get lucky and he outperforms his expectations.

Week 17-Carson Palmer vs. Jets
The Bengals could be playing for the No. 3 seed if New England loses earlier in the day, but don't expect Palmer to play all game even if that is the case. If this game was meaningful for the Bengals, it would be a tough matchup anyway against the Jets No. 1 pass offense. Keep Palmer on the bench for the final week of the season.

Week 16-Carson Palmer vs. Chiefs
Palmer had his best fantasy outing since Week 7 and reached the 300 yard mark for the first time this season. The Bengals want to run the ball so that game by Palmer might be an aberration. Palmer is a No. 2 fantasy QB against a bad KC defense that is really bad against the run. Only start him if you start two QBs in your league.

Week 15-Carson Palmer vs. Chargers
Palmer's team continues to win, but they are winning by being conservative which has hurt his fantasy standing. Don't expect them to change any time soon and against the Chargers No. 10 pass defense, the results should be similar to previous weeks. Keep Palmer on the bench against the Bolts.

Week 14-Carson Palmer vs. Vikings
Palmer had his worst game of the season with three turnovers and it won't get any easier this week when he faces the Vikings on the road. Minnesota actually is only 21st against the pass, but the Bengals seem to be more inclined to run the ball and that should be the case in the Metrodome. Keep Palmer on the bench for Week 14.

Week 13-Carson Palmer vs. Lions
Palmer faces the worst pass defense in the NFL this week, but that might not be as good as it sounds. The Bengals have become a running team first and Palmer manages games rather than throwing the ball all over the place like he did earlier this decade. We recommend to start Palmer as a low-end No. 1 fantasy QB, but don't expect a 300-yard day or more than 2 TDs.

Week 12-Carson Palmer vs. Browns
Palmer has been more of a game manager this season, but he does face an awful Browns pass defense in Week 12. Start Palmer as a low-end No. 1 fantasy QB and expect a couple TD passes and 250 yards passing.

Week 11-Carson Palmer vs. Raiders
The Bengals have become a defensive team and Palmer has become more of a game manager with the offense. The Raiders pass defense is average, but Palmer won't be asked to do too much. Start him only if your league starts 2 QBs. Otherwise, keep him on the bench for Week 11.

Week 10-Carson Palmer vs. Steelers
Palmer has been very good the past two weeks throwing 6 TDs and 0 INTs. He faces a Steelers defense that is peaking right now and has had moderate success against them in the past averaging almost 200 yard per game, but throwing a 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio. Expect this game to be a defensive battle and the Bengals to stubbornly try to run the ball. Palmer should sit in all leagues unless you start 2 QBs.

Week 9-Carson Palmer vs. Ravens
Palmer had five TDs two weeks ago against the Bears and now comes off a bye week. That was the first time since his return from injury the Bengals offense looked like the old Bengals offense. Palmer will face the always tough Ravens defense who has been average against in his career. Expect him to put up average numbers this week and that's enough to consider him a starting fantasy QB for Week 9.

Bears Defense vs. Carson Palmer
This should be an interesting test for the Bears Defense as they match up with former teammate Cedric Benson who just happens to be 3rd in the NFL in rushing.. When the former longhorn was in Chicago, he really didn't have the best relationship with the team, and has spent the week talking trash about the organization. Add that with the disappointing loss last week in Atlanta, and I expect the Bears Defense to be motivated.
The problem is that they're also facing off with Carson Palmer who has changed his philosophy and is pretty much being careful with the ball. That hurts the bears biggest fantasy strength which is getting turnovers and returning them to the house. The Bears are now a middle of the road defense until they can show they've returned to elite status.

Week 7-Carson Palmer vs. Bears
Palmer still hasn't been the elite QB he was before his injury and has been downright average since a solid Week 2 performance against Green Bay. Palmer faces a tough Bears defense who is average against the pass, but the Bengals seem to rely on the running game more this season. Palmer is only a No. 2 fantasy QB this week.

Week 6-Carson Palmer vs. Texans
Palmer threw for a season-high 271 yards last week, but his numbers remain modest. The Bengals are winning so don't expect them to do anything different this week against an average Texans' run defense. He also is nursing a sprained thumb although he expects to play. Keep him on the bench unless you are desperate for Week 6. He is a No. 2 fantasy QB at best this week.

Week 5-Carson Palmer vs. Ravens
Despite the Bengals early-season success, Palmer has been average. He has only 6 TDs to go along with 5 INTs. He actually had moderate success against the Ravens in his career completing over 60% of his passes while averaging almost 250 yards per game. And considering the Ravens pass defense hasn't been the best this season, Palmer might look like a good fantasy option. But I would not start Palmer as a No. 1 for Week 5. He is a No. 2 at best which means he should be on the bench unless you are in a league that starts two QBs.

Week 4-Carson Palmer vs. Browns
Despite his team's big win vs. Pittsburgh, Palmer has been average the first three games, only eclipsing the 200 yard mark once and matching his TD total (4) with his INT total. Palmer has not burned Cleveland in the past. He does have 20 TDs, but 13 INTs as well. Still, we like the way the Bengals are playing and the Browns have an average pass defense. Start Palmer as a low-end No. 1 fantasy QB for Week 4.

Week 3-Carson Palmer vs. Steelers
Palmer is not a big fan of the Steelers because of the injury he suffered back in the 2006 playoffs and he has had mixed results against a very good Steelers defense (201 ypg, 13 TDs, 7 INTs in 8 games). Although, they are only ranked No. 19 against the pass this season, Palmer just doesn't match up with Pittsburgh and should be average at best. That's not good enough to start in any league.

Week 2-Carson Palmer vs. Packers
Palmer looked a little rusty last week against Denver, but it's only one game. He has a tougher match-up this week against Green Bay. If you drafted Palmer hoping he would return to form, you might have to wait a little bit longer. Keep Palmer on the bench for Week 2.

Week 1 - Carson Palmer vs. Broncos
Well, Carson Palmer is back, but the question is how back is he? He had no complications in the preseason with the ankle that limited him to four games last season. From a fantasy standpoint, Palmer is a great start against a Broncos pass defense that was one of the worst in the NFL in 2008 and shouldn't be much better this season. Trust Palmer's health for now and start him in all leagues.
