The Atlanta Falcons were stout against the run, dug in on third down and came up with a big interception. Coach Mike Smith will take more of the same in the regular season.

Atlanta gave up only a field goal while Miami starting quarterback Chad Henne was in the game and beat the Dolphins 16-6 on Friday night.

Middle linebacker Curtis Lofton led the Falcons' defensive charge with 11 tackles, two for losses. Erik Coleman intercepted a pass in the end zone, and the Dolphins converted only one of nine third- and fourth-down situations with Henne, who played one series into the third quarter.
Lawrence Sidbury had a sack, two quarterback hits and a tackle for a loss.

Atlanta's Matt Ryan threw his first touchdown pass of the exhibition season. He led scoring drives of 60 and 54 yards, the second of which took more than seven minutes.

Ryan played one series into the third quarter and finished 13 of 26 for 103 yards, with one interception. He helped the Falcons convert eight of 14 third-down situations against Miami (2-1).

Michael Turner was a workhorse for Atlanta in the first half, rushing 47 yards in 16 carries. He lost a fumble.

Henne went 10 of 22 for 123 yards with one interception, and at least three of his passes were dropped.

Henne and Brandon Marshall hooked up for completions of 26 and 20 yards in the final 45 seconds of the first half, giving the Dolphins a first down at the 7. But linebacker Mike Peterson tipped a second-down pass, and Coleman intercepted it in the end zone.

Miami's Ronnie Brown ran for only 9 yards in eight carries, two out of the wildcat. Ricky Williams carried four times for 5 yards.

The Falcons converted three third-down situations on their second possession before Ryan hit Roddy White for an 18-yard score. White later beat Sean Smith on a deep route, but Ryan overthrew him near the goal line.

Smith did not start because he violated a team rule, Sparano said.

Atlanta's first-teamers had two turnovers, both in the first half. Cornerback Vontae Davis forced Turner's fumble, and Dolphins newcomer Karlos Dansby recovered, while Ryan was intercepted by Yeremiah Bell.

Davis made seven tackles, one for a loss, and three passes defended.

Dan Carpenter kicked a 53-yard field goal on Miami's first possession, and hit a 35-yarder in the second half. Matt Bryant made a 26-yarder for the Falcons.

Cornerback Dunta Robinson, the Falcons' major offseason acquisition, did not play because of a lingering hamstring injury. Defensive tackle Peria Jerry , the 2008 first-round draft pick who missed most of his rookie season with a knee injury, made his 2010 debut and had a quarterback hit.

Miami third-string tight end Joey Haynos left the game with a foot injury, and receiver Brian Hartline hurt his left hip.

FANTASY UPSIDE
After a tumultuous ending to his career in Denver, Marshall is set to have a big year in Miami, where he’ll get plenty of attention – from both Chad Henne and from opposing defenses. The Dolphins finally have a number-one threat at receiver in Marshall, who can turn any normal slant route into a highlight-reel TD. His reception numbers could once again crack the century mark, and he has the potential to put up huge touchdown (and fantasy) stats.

FANTASY DOWNSIDE
The Achilles’ heel of Marshall has always been his attitude. Whether it is his relationships with his fellow players, his coaches, or management, some see him as a ticking time bomb. When he was forced to sit out the last game of the 2009 regular season, Marshall crippled some fantasy owners who were in their respective fantasy championship games. The Dolphins also have a brutal schedule against the pass. You can count on Derrelle Revis being locked onto Marshall for two games, and there are a number of other tough matchups on the schedule.

MY OVERALL OUTLOOK
Marshall is currently 10th among 4for4 wide receivers, largely because his QB is not considered to be among the league’s elite, but also because of the schedule noted above, and the fact that WRs moving to new teams tend to take some time to settle in. Marshall should be a late second round pick, and could end up being a steal if he slips to the middle of the third round. He’s somewhat of a question mark because of all the variables surrounding him, but certainly has the potential to reward owners willing to take a gamble. But buyer beware – historically, most WRs have a tough time adjusting to their new teams in the first year.

Week 17 - Brandon Marshall vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Last week against the Eagles, Marshall was targeted 13 times, resulting in eight catches, but for just 39 yards. It was his lowest yardage total since Week 11. After a slow start to the season, Brandon has turned up his game. In the past five weeks, he has 49 receptions and four TDs. While he has eclipsed the century mark just three times this year, just a few weeks ago in Kansas City, Marshall had seven grabs for 94 yards and a TD. He is a must-play and should finish off the regular season with another great game.

Week 16 - Brandon Marshall vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Marshall was targeted nine times last week against Oakland, finishing with another solid game – seven catches, 73 yards and his 10th TD of the season – fourth in the past three weeks. The Eagles are allowing just 214 yards-per-game via the air, but Brandon is a must-play, so look for him to again be the go-to WR in the Denver offense.

Week 15 - Brandon Marshall vs. Oakland Raiders
How can Marshall top his record-setting performance last week in Indy? All he did was set the NFL record with 21 receptions, for 200 yards and both of Denver’s TDs. It was his first 100-yard game since Week 10, when he also caught two TD passes against Washington. In Week 3 in Oakland, Marshall had five catches for 67 yards, including a TD. While his numbers will definitely take a dip this week from last, he is a must-play and should have another good game.

Week 14 - Brandon Marshall vs. Indianapolis Colts
Marshall continues to post good numbers, as he victimized the Chiefs’ secondary for 94 yards and a score last week. He was targeted 10 times and finished with seven of the team’s 15 receptions. Brandon has at least 86 receiving yards in four of the past five games, with three TDs during that span. Expect the Broncos to use the running game this week on the road, limiting Marshall’s touches. But, he should still total over 70 yards with a chance at another score.

Week 13 - Brandon Marshall vs. Kansas City Chiefs
On Thanksgiving night, Brandon was targeted a team-high nine times, finishing with six catches for 86 yards. Kansas City is the third worst team in the NFL against the pass, giving up 258 yards-per-game, and Marshall has again turned in to a must-play WR. He should have a strong outing on the road Sunday, with a good possibility for a score.

Week 12 - Brandon Marshall vs. New York Giants
After back-to-back 100 yard performances, Brandon was targeted nine times last week, but came away with just three catches for 26 yards. Things may not be much better for Marshall and the Denver offense on Thanksgiving, as the Giants are second in the NFL versus the pass, allowing only 177 yards-per-game. Expect Brandon to be the main target for Kyle Orton, but probably not a score.

Week 11 - Brandon Marshall vs. San Diego Chargers
Marshall had a big game last week, with five grabs for 134 yards and two long TDs. In the game earlier this season against the Bolts he had 49 yards on five receptions. Look for the Broncos to keep Brandon involved again, with the big WR totaling over 60 yards and possibly another score.

Week 10 - Brandon Marshall vs. Washington Redskins
Marshall finally had a 100-yard receiving game last week, as he finished with 11 catches for 112 yards in the loss against Pittsburgh. The 11 grabs were almost half of the team’s 23 receptions on the night. One area of concern is that Marshall hasn’t scored the past three games. Brandon came in to last week's game averaging nearly five receptions for 51 yards and that’s more realistic of where he’ll be on Sunday against the NFL’s best team versus the pass.

Week 9 - Brandon Marshall vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Last week in Baltimore, B-Marsh was targeted eight times, but totaled just four receptions for 24 yards. He has been consistent, with at least four grabs in all but one game, but if the Broncos are going to defeat the Steelers on Monday night, they will need their big WR to step it up. Pittsburgh is allowing just 214 yards-per-game through the air, so look for another average game from Brandon, with around 50 receiving yards, but probably not a score.

Week 8 - Brandon Marshall vs. Baltimore Ravens
In his last game, Marshall caught five passes for 49 yards, but was held without a TD for the first time in four weeks. Brandon has caught at least four balls in every game this season except Week 2. He has become a much bigger part of the offense over the past four games, averaging 68 yards-per-game over that span. The Baltimore defense is allowing 242 yards-per-game passing, so go ahead and keep playing Marshall – he should finish with between 50-70 yards and another potential score.

Week 6 - Brandon Marshall vs. San Diego Chargers
Marshall has scored four times this year, all in the last three games. He’s coming off of a season-high eight receptions against the Patriots last week. While he’s still yet to have a truly breakout performance, Brandon is a must-start, even against a San Diego D that has been pretty good against the pass. Look for Marshall to again be the primary receiving target, but his three-game TD streak will probably come to an end.

Week 5 - Brandon Marshall vs. New England Patriots
Marshall continues to improve, as he had four grabs for 91 yards and a spectacular, game-winning TD last Sunday. Denver will need him to come up big again this week, as New England is giving up only 192 passing yards-per-game. While he’s failed to crack the century mark, Brandon has at least four receptions in three of the four games this year. He hasn’t been the dominant WR he was last season, but keep starting Marshall and look for him to perform well.

Week 4 - Brandon Marshall vs. Dallas Cowboys
Marshall became a bigger part of the Denver offense last week, catching five passes for 67 yards and his first TD. The Broncos are trying to get him the ball more, as he was targeted a team-high seven times and also has one rushing attempt in each of the past two weeks. Denver’s O will need another good game out of him this week and Dallas is allowing over 250 passing yards-per-game. Go ahead and play Brandon as he should register between 60-80 total yards.

Week 3 - Brandon Marshall vs. Oakland Raiders
Marshall leads the Broncos with seven receptions, but he’s totaled just 61 yards and hasn’t scored. Last Sunday he spent the second quarter on the bench, watching the rest of the Denver WRs put up better numbers. He did finally get in to the act in the second half, but the Broncos need to find a way to get their best player to be more productive. Last season against the Raiders Marshall had four grabs for 84 yards. While we don’t anticipate his yards to be that high on Sunday, look for Brandon to have his best game of the young season.

Week 2 - Brandon Marshall vs. Cleveland Browns
Despite a couple drops last week, Brandon contributed with four catches for 27 yards - not stellar numbers, but at least he was on the field and a part of the offense. Another bright spot for Marshall owners is that he was targeted a team-high seven times. Last year in Cleveland, Marshall caught six passes for 89 yards and a score. While he probably won't be near 100 yards in this one, the Broncos should be able to move the ball better than they did last week, so a TD is certainly a possibility for the big WR.

Week 1 - Brandon Marshall vs. Cincinnati Bengals
How much of Josh McDaniels’ playbook has Marshall learned? After spending most of the preseason in the coach’s doghouse, Brandon is active and ready to contribute - especially with the recent rumors the Broncos are looking at extending his contract.
According to McDaniels, Marshall’s attitude has been “great” this week. Denver has a lot of three- and four-WR formations, so they need Brandon to be ready. While we don't expect Marshall to have a bustout game, he should be steady with a minimum of four catches for over 50 yards.
