Seattle Times - [Full Article]
Time is running out for Charlie Whitehurst.
Only one exhibition remains, one last chance to impress a new coaching staff before trading his Seahawks helmet for a baseball cap and a spot on the sidelines.
Unless something goes terribly awry with quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and the Seahawks this fall, Thursday's 7 p.m. exhibition at Oakland is the last time Whitehurst will receive meaningful minutes in a game this season.
"It's probably not something you'll hear a lot of guys say, but I'm glad that we have this fourth game," he said. "It's important for us to do some things in this fourth game. Try to get the run going. Try to make some plays. Try to become more efficient on offense.
"For a lot of guys, and I'm probably in the same boat, you don't know when you'll really get to play again so you have to make the most of the situation."

FANTASY UPSIDE
Matt Hasselbeck is a savvy NFL veteran who threw for over 3,000 yards and a 60% completion rate. He will be the opening game starter for Seattle.
FANTASY DOWNSIDE
Hasselbeck threw only 17 TDs to go along with 17 INTs. He also lost his No. 1 receiver to free agency and has the recently acquired Charlie Whitehurst breathing down his neck. His leash could be short as the Seattle starting QB.
BOTTOM LINE The Hasselbeck era is nearing it's end in Seattle and he doesn't have much help around him to help him keep the starter job. His health has been a question mark and a new coaching staff could also be a factor. By the second half of the season, Charlie Whitehurst could be the starter. Hasselbeck is not worth a roster spot going into the season.

Week 17 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Tennessee Titans
Hasselbeck completed just over half of his passes last week in Green Bay, for 198 yards, one score, but four very costly INTs. Matt has turned the ball over nine times (8 INTs) the last two games. In what has been a very disappointing season, he has 16 TDs and 16 INTs. Even though Hasselbeck has five TD passes the past four games, the Seattle offense just hasn’t been clicking for most of the year. Sure, the Titans are the second worst team in the NFL versus the pass, giving up 265 yards-per-game, but it’s tough to have any faith in Matt and the Seahawks. He should finish with over 200 yards and at least one TD - hopefully going to a player on his team.

Week 16 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Green Bay Packers
Hasselbeck turned the ball over five times in the loss to the Bucs last week. He ended up throwing for 256 yards, but had just one TD and four picks. The Packers allowed Ben Roethlisberger to throw for over 500 yards last Sunday, but they are only allowing 207 yards-per-game through the air for the season. So, don’t expect Matt and the Seahawks’ offense to post big numbers, as they have had trouble moving the ball all season. Seattle’s O has just two TDs the past two games, so keep Hasselbeck on your bench for this important fantasy playoff game.

Week 15 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Despite the Seahawks getting dominated last week in Houston, Matt put up decent fantasy numbers, going 24-35 for 247 yards and one score. It was the most yards he’s thrown for since Week 10. He re-injured his shoulder during the game, but was able to come back in and finish. Although Hasselbeck will probably be listed on the injury report this week, he will start. However, because they’ve had such a hard time stopping the run, Tampa Bay is seventh in the League against the pass, allowing just 200 yards-per-game. With WR Nate Burleson out, look for Matt to have an average game, with around 200 yards and one TD toss.

Week 14 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Houston Texans
Last week against the 49ers, Matt hurt his shoulder and missed some action, but returned to the game. He finished 25-34 for 198 yards and two TDs. While it was his second straight sub-200 yard passing game, he did rush for 31 yards on four carries. Despite the injury, he will start this week against a Houston D that is allowing 214 yards-per-game through the air. Expect Hasselbeck to throw for over 200 yards with one, maybe two, TDs.

Week 13 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. San Francisco 49ers
With the Seahawks in control for most of the game last week in St. Louis, Matt ended just 14-25 for 102 yards. Look for a better performance this week, as the 49ers are near the bottom of the League against the pass, yielding 257 yards-per-game. In Week 2 versus San Francisco, Hasselbeck was knocked out of the game and finished just 10-18 for 97 yards. However, at home this time, he should throw for around 250 yards and at least one score.

Week 12 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. St. Louis Rams
With the game out of hand last week in Minnesota, Matt put up decent numbers, finishing 19-26 for 231 yards, but no TDs. It broke a streak of two straight 300-yard games and three in a row with at least one TD toss. Hasselbeck should have a better outing this week, as the Rams are giving up 239 passing yards-per-game. And, in Week 1 against St. Louis, Matt was 25-36 for 279 yards and three TDs. Look for the Bald Bomber to put up another solid game, with a couple of TD throws in the dome.

Week 11 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Minnesota Vikings
For the second straight week, Matt had over 50 pass attempts and threw for more than 300 yards. He’s tossed four TDs in the past three games. The Vikings are in the bottom third of the League against the pass, allowing 234 yards-per-game, so look for Seattle to again move the football through the air. Hasselbeck should be near 250 yards with at least one score on Sunday.

Week 10 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Arizona Cardinals
Matt is coming of his best game of the season, as he completed 39-51 for 329 yards and one TD against the Lions last Sunday. He hurt his shoulder trying to make a tackle after throwing an interception, but should be healthy enough to play. In the previous meeting against the Arizona, Matt was just 10-29 for 112 yards and an INT, but the Cardinals are near the bottom of the league against the past, giving up 247 yards-per-game. Look for Hasselbeck to have a better game than he did in Week 6, with around 225 yards and one TD toss.

Week 9 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Detroit Lions
Last week against the Cowboys, Matt was 22-39 for 249 yards and two TDs. With the game out of reach, the Seattle offense was able to show some signs of life, resulting in a decent statistical day. This week, at home, things should be easier for Hasselbeck, as the Lions are near the bottom of the league against the pass, allowing 252 yards-per-game through the air. Look for the Seahawks to be able to move the ball in this one, with Matt throwing for around 250 yards and two more scores.

Week 8 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Dallas Cowboys
Despite being held out of practice on Wednesday due to his rib injury, Matt will play on Sunday. Hasselbeck spent much of his last game, against Arizona, on his back - being sacked five times. When he did have enough time to pass, he and the Seattle offense were terrible, completing just 10-29 for 112 yards. This week he’ll be going against a Cowboys’ defense that’s yielding 239 yards-per-game through the air. Even with all the byes this week, Matt makes for a tough play. Don’t expect him to throw for over 200 yards and, at most, one TD.

Week 6 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Arizona Cardinals
Hasselbeck returned to the Seattle lineup and gave the offense the spark it was missing, as he threw for 241 yards and four TDs. This week, Matt will be going against a Cardinals’ team that is the worst in the NFL against the pass, yielding 303 yards-per-game; and, last week Matt Schaub threw for 371 yards against them. While Hasselbeck won’t throw for that many yards this week, he should post another good game, with around 250 yards and a couple TD tosses.

Week 5 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
It’s still not clear if Matt will be back for this one, but the Seattle offense sure could use him. The Seahawks have scored only 46 points in the last three contests, all losses. This would be a good game for Hasselbeck to play, as the Jaguars are allowing a league-worst 282 passing yards-per-game. Be sure to check the injury report; if Matt's a go, go ahead and start him.

Week 4 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Indianapolis Colts
Hasselbeck’s status is still unknown for this week, but he most likely will be out again with a fractured rib. Even if he does play, he’ll be going against a Colts’ D that’s yielding just 192 yards-per-game through the air. Even if he is able to go, don’t expect much from Matt and the Seattle offense in this one.

Week 3 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. Chicago Bears
Will Hasselbeck be able to go this week? He left in the 2nd quarter last week after fracturing his rib. He wasn't having that great of game anyway, finishing 10-18 for 97 yards. Even if Matt does play, this looks like a good week to keep him on your bench, as the Bears are yielding just 176.5 yards-per-game through the air in ’09. Whoever is QBing the Hawks won’t throw for over 200 yards.

Week 2 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. San Francisco 49ers
Hasselbeck had it going last week against the Rams, finishing 25-36 for 279 yards and three TDs. He was picked off twice, however. In the one game Matt played against San Fran last year, he was just 18-36 for 189 yards with two INTs. Kurt Warner threw for 288 yards against the Niners’ D last week as the Cardinals weren’t able to establish any type of running game. Look for Hasselbeck to have another good fantasy outing, with around 225-250 yards and at least one TD toss.

Week 1 - Matt Hasselbeck vs. St. Louis Rams
In the Seahawks’ home blowout against St. Louis last season, Seattle relied on their ground game, as Hasselbeck was just 12-20 for 172 yards and one TD. This season Matt will be throwing to a couple new faces versus '08, as Seattle welcomes back Nate Burleson - who was hurt in the first game last year - and T.J. Houshmandzadeh. New Head Coach Jim Mora likes to throw the ball, but Seattle should be able to win this one with its ground game. Look for Matt to throw for around 200-225 yards and one TD on Sunday.
