Starting running back LeGarrette Blount fumbled on Tampa Bay's first play from scrimmage, leading to Olindo Mare's field goal.
Blount was benched until the second half.
"It's a basic thing, and to fumble like that, that's unacceptable," Morris said. "If some players aren't ready to play, we'll put others in."

Week 17 opponent: at New Orleans Saints
New Orleans' fantasy points allowed to Ks: 20th in the NFL (7.5 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare scored 12 points last week as the Panthers trounced Tampa Bay. He's unlikely to kick six extra points in Week 17, but this game does have some shootout potential if you need a kicker for some reason.

Week 16 opponent: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 22nd in the NFL (7.6 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Tampa is allowing more extra points per game (3.4) than any other team. If for some reason you need to use Mare this week, you can look forward to at least a few XPs but little else since the only thing stopping offenses for Tampa is the fact that a football field is only 100 yards long.

Week 15 opponent: at Houston Texans
Houston's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 7th in the NFL (6.5 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare has gone from a decent K1 around mid-season but since then, he's slipped out of consideration even in 16 team leagues. Move on if you haven't already.

Week 14 opponent: vs. Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 17th in the NFL (7.3 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare has had three solid performances in a row where he's totaled 26 fantasy points but hasn't eclipsed double-digits since Week 7. He's just outside of consideration for deep leagues.

Week 13 opponent: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 23rd in the NFL (7.9 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare has missed two field goals in his last three games and in addition, the Panthers aren't scoring enough to justify starting him. He's only converted 78.3 percent of his field goal attempts which ranks Mare towards the bottom of the league in field goal percentage.

Week 12 opponent: at Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis' fantasy points allowed to Ks: 27th in the NFL (8.4 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
The Colts' defense has allowed the most touchdowns in the NFL (36) so Mare will likely have a small handful of points at least. It's just a matter of the Panthers faltering in the red zone for Mare to have a bigger point total.

Week 11 opponent: at Detroit Lions
Detroit's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 31st in the NFL (8.9 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Detroit's defense keeps everything in front of them. By doing so, opposing offenses typically flame out as they near the goal line. This bodes well for Mare since Detroit has allowed the second-most field goals (21) in the NFL.

Week 10 opponent: vs. Tennessee Titans
Tennessee's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 12th in the NFL (6.9 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
The problem with Mare is his inconsistency, but through no fault of his own. Essentially for every good game Mare has, he follows it up with a stinker. If you need a replacement kicker for someone like Rian Lindell, Mare should be contention.

Week 8 opponent: vs. Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 2nd most in the NFL (9.7 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
The Vikings have surrendered a league-worst 18 field goals made this season, including a steady stream of 14 extra points. Mare is coming off a huge where he converted four FGs and 3 XPs. He's got a nice matchup here and would be a suitable bye-week replacement.

Week 7 opponent: vs. Washington Redskins
Detroit's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 14th fewest in the NFL (7.0 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare just isn't kicking enough field goals, particularly in the Panthers' last two games, to make him a reliable fantasy option. Since Washington's defense has looked much improved this year, all the more reason to look elsewhere.

Week 6 opponent: at Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 4th most in the NFL (9.2 fppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare is on the cusp of being fantasy relevant, but he now has two weeks without attempting a field goal. Obviously, he has no control over this, but the Panthers' offense is not quite prolific enough to make him into a starter just yet. A more reliable running game would help, but for now, you can do better if you need a bye week replacement.

Week 5 opponent: vs. New Orleans Saints
New Orleans' fantasy points allowed to Ks: 13th most in the NFL (8.0 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare attempted five field goals last week against Chicago but only converted three. That will happen in the Windy City. What I like about Mare is that Carolina is leaning heavily on the pass and struggling with the run. When they get in the red zone, they will be forced to settle for more field goals. If you need a bye-week replacement, consider him in the remaining weeks.

Week 4 opponent: at Chicago Bears
Chicago's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 6th most in the NFL (9.0 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Chicago typically allows a lot of field goals since they'll give up underneath routes and teams can naturally move the ball a little against them. They'll tighten up in the red zone, especially if you approach the end zone. Mare is only averaging about six fantasy points per game, so he's not a great option.

Week 3 opponent: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 15th fewest in the NFL (7.0 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare shouldn't be on your roster as the Panthers aren't a top offense. He had a good game against the Packers last week and if he can keep getting opportunities, he may develop into a decent bye week fill-in later in the year.

Week 2 opponent: vs. Green Bay Packers
Green Bay's fantasy points allowed to Ks: 5th most in the NFL (10 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Mare was limited to only three fantasy points in Carolina's near-win over Arizona in Week 1. Green Bay's tough defense looked vulnerable at times against the Saints but it seems unlikely Carolina will have that same kind of success on offense.

Week 1 opponent: @ Arizona Cardinals
Arizona's fantasy points allowed to Ks (2010): Most in NFL
Fantasy Outlook
Arizona allowed 51 field goal attempts last year, by far the highest total in the NFL. Their defense can only improve, but by how much? Mare should be on the waiver wire until Carolina and Cam Newton put some big points on the scoreboard.
