The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel - [Full Article]

More than six months after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, Green Bay Packers running back Alex Green is running four days a week. He recently met with the team's physician, Dr. Pat McKenzie, who is hopeful Green will be ready for training camp. Green has stayed ahead of schedule all off-season.

With Ryan Grant’s future still in limbo, that's key. Late July remains Green's target.

“My speed is picking up daily,” Green said Thursday. “Every day, I’m running at a faster pace. It’s going pretty good right now. I’m definitely excited with where I’m at.”

Green was just starting to find his place within the Packers’ offense when he tore the ACL in his left knee Oct. 23 at Minnesota while blocking on a kick return. Two weeks prior, he caught a third-down pass at Atlanta. And, most importantly, his comfort level in the scheme was high. Coaches like his vision and ability to maneuver in space.

Ryan Grant Week 17

Grant had 44 rushing yards on eight carries and added 34 receiving yards in last week's win over Chicago. His opportunities were limited as the Packers focused more on the passing game.

This week, Green Bay takes on the Lions. Grant might see limited work as the Packers will likely pull their starters for the second half. He doesn't have much upside in this game.

Ranked #46 among RBs this week, there are better options than having Grant in your lineup.

Ryan Grant Week 16

Grant was effective again last week, but didn't get into the end zone. He ended with 66 yards on 12 carries, but wasn't fed the ball enough to put up big fantasy numbers.

This week, the Packers take on the Bears. Grant might get the start again but it looks like James Starks should return to action, making all Packers running backs hands off against a good Bears defense.

Ryan Grant Week 15

Grant has his best game in recent memory last week, amassing 85 yards on the ground and scoring two TDs. He broke a long run early in the game to start the scoring for Green Bay.

This week, the Packers take on the Chiefs. With James Starks likely out for this game, Grant will get his fair share of touches. He might not score twice, but could pile up some more yards.

Ranked #26 among RBs this week, Grant is a flex play or could be a starter in deeper leagues.

Ryan Grant Week 14

Grant had a paltry 29 yards on 13 carries in last week's win over the Giants. Once again, he failed to produce when given the bulk of the workload and doesn't seem to have any burst when he gets the ball.

This week, the Packers take on the Raiders. With James Starks out due to injury, Grant and Brandon Saine will split the Green Bay rushing opportunities. Grant hasn't been able to establish any momentum this season, and it looks as if Saine is in prime position to jump him on the depth chart.

Ranked #42 among RBs this week, there are better options than having Grant in your lineup.

Ryan Grant Week 13

Grant had only 40 total yards (20 rushing yards, 20 receiving yards) in last week's win over the Lions, despite the fact that starter James Starks sat out most of the second half.

This week, Green Bay takes on the Giants. Starks might be limited, so Grant does have some upside. However, it's clear that the Packers don't call Grant's number much when he's in the game.

Ranked #49 among RBs this week, Grant has some sleeper value, but is a big risk to put in your starting lineup.

Ryan Grant Week 12

Grant had only four carries in last week's win over Tampa Bay, and finished the game with 16 yards.

This week, the Packers take on the Lions on Thanksgiving. Grant might get a larger workload if James Starks sits out the game with an injury. Even if Starks is out, Grant won't see the ball too much in the pass happy Packers offense. With Starks out, Grant would be a sneaky flex play. If Starks plays, stay away from all Packers RBs.

Ryan Grant Week 11

Grant had another sub-par performance last week, despite the fact that Green Bay's offense exploded for 45 points in a win over Minnesota. He finished with 17 receiving yards and only six rushing yards.

This week, the Packers take on the Bucs. Green Bay hasn't been using Grant much lately, and when he gets his chances, it is usually the spell the pass or in short-yardage. His upside is limited, so he's not an attractive fantasy option.

Ranked #51 among RBs this week, Grant isn't worth starting and is droppable if there are more attractive waiver options.

Ryan Grant Week 10

Grant only had 16 yards on four carries in last week’s win over San Diego. In a game in which the Packers put up huge numbers, Grant didn’t spend a ton of time on the field.

This week, Green Bay takes on the Vikings. With Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ passing attack firing on all cylinders, and James Starks still being productive ahead of Grant, he won’t get the opportunity to put up big fantasy numbers.

Ranked #45 among RBs this week, Grant isn’t worth starting this week. He’s only worth owning in a super-deep league.

Ryan Grant Week 9

Grant was underwhelming once again in a Week 7 win over the Vikings. He had 29 rushing yards on nine carries and never got it going when he touched the ball.

This week, the Packers take on the Chargers. Grant is still behind James Starks on the depth chart, and will get his share of opportunities. But it's tough to see any upside or fantasy potential in Grant going forward.

Ranked #36 among RBs this week, Grant shouldn't be on your starting roster and might be worth dropping if someone with more upside is available.

Ryan Grant Week 7

Grant was underwhelming with nine carries for 25 yards in Green Bay's Week 6 win over the Rams. He also caught two passes for 27 yards. Grant once again split time with James Starks, receiving the minority of the touches.

This week, the Packers take on the Vikings. Grant is a tough guy to start, because it's unknown how many quality chances he'll get to make plays. He is at odds with Starks and the Green Bay passing game.

Ranked #37 among RBs this week, Grant is marginally worth owning, but not starting this week unless you are in a bind.

Ryan Grant Week 6

Grant returned from injury in last week's win over Atlanta. He ran the ball seven times for 18 yards. By comparison, James Starks had 12 carries.

This week, the Packers take on the Rams. Grant didn't look like the lead back for the Green Bay offense last week, and the best case scenario for this week is a platoon situation with Starks.

Ranked #28 among RBs this week, Grant probably isn't worth playing unless you're in a deeper league since his chances could be limited. However, the matchup is great and Grant could have a productive game.

Ryan Grant Week 5

Grant sat out last week's win over the Broncos with a bruised kidney.

This week, Green Bay takes on Atlanta. It should be a 50/50 split between Grant and Starks. Starks performed well last week, but the Packers focused on the passing game, so his touches were limited.

Grant is a risky play, even in deeper leagues. He'll share the touches with Starks, and even those numbers will be limited.

Ryan Grant Week 4

Grant shocked fantasy owners in Week 3, running for 92 yards on 17 carries. Last week, Packer teammate James Starks seemed to have emerged as the top back in Green Bay. But it looks as if the Packers will keep feeding the ball to whomever is stronger on that given day, as Grant had the hot hand last Sunday.

Unfortunately for Grant owners, Grant bruised a kidney last week and looks unlikely to play in week 4.

Ryan Grant Week 3

Grant had a meager 25 yards on six carries in a Week 2 win over Carolina. He also caught three balls for 14 yards. At this point, it looks as if James Starks will get the majority of the carries, but Grant is a close second. The larger problem is that with as little as the Packers run the ball, that share of the offensive touches is miniscule.

In Week 3, Green Bay travels to Chicago to take on the Bears. It's unclear as to how many opportunities Grant will have to put up fantasy points.

Ranked #55 among RBs this week, with all of the risk, Grant's not worth starting. However he is worth stashing on your bench, at least for the next few weeks.

Ryan Grant Week 2

Grant had 40 yards on only nine carries in Week 1, with James Starks getting more touches out of the Packers backfield. Starks was also on the field more during crunch time.

This week, Green Bay takes on Carolina. With the emergence of Starks, Grant's productivity will be stunted until further notice. He might get more chances in a blowout win.

Ranked #41 among RBs this week, Grant is worth having on your bench, but won't get enough opportunities to be a starter.

Ryan Grant Week 1
Grant, who is returning from injury after missing almost all of last season, looked sluggish in the preseason. Rumor out of Green Bay is that he could be overtaken by James Starks as the primary back if he doesn't turn things around.

In Week 1, the Packers take on the Saints. Grant is ranked #43 among RBs this week as he is expected to split the workload with Starks. However, it will be interesting to see how many touches he gets, for better or worse.
