Finally healthy enough to show Mike Martz what he can do, Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett has exceeded the offensive coordinator’s expectations.
“He’s so good in the slot,” Martz said Thursday. “He does so many good things. He does a great job in those inside routes. He really does so many things for us. I’m excited. I’m really pleased. I thought he was a good player, but he’s even better than I thought. He’s really done a remarkable job.”
After catching 54 passes for 717 yards and 2 touchdowns last season, Bennett sat out the offseason program while recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. Finally back on the field, he sustained a hamstring injury in training camp that forced him to miss all four preseason games.
After being inactive for the season opener, Bennett caught five passes in a Week 2 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He then had three receptions and drew a crucial pass-interference penalty that led to Robbie Gould’s game-winning field goal Monday night against the Green Bay Packers.

Week 17 vs. Vikings
Robbie Gould was snubbed this week when Pro Bowl Rosters were announced as he's been the Bears most consistent scoring option this season connecting on 27 of 31 field goals. Last Sunday night against Green Bay he had another nice performance with two field goals, and an extra point. Gould might not get a ton of opportunities as the Bears offense struggles getting up and down the field, but he will be kicking indoors on Sunday and is as consistent as you're going to get.
