Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez said Thursday that next season probably will be his last — though it’s not the first offseason he has said that, nor does should it come as a surprise.

Wild Card Weekend: Falcons @ Giants
So Gonzalez scored seven touchdowns and the yardage on those plays was 4, 17, 10, 1, 1, 20 and 17. There's no denying that Gonzalez is one of the most prolific red zone guys in NFL history. He didn't finish the year very strong with two games out of his last three where he was limited to only one reception. On the bright side, the Falcons dominated both games and simply didn't need him to produce. This week, they'll need him as a release valve in case Ryan is pressured.

Week 17 opponent: vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 21st in the NFL (8.2 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Gonzalez has been quiet in his last two games, and it's possible that Atlanta is trying to give him a break before the playoffs. That said, he still did have nine targets last week, but maybe the decrease in production is just him having a couple so-so games. As long as Gonzo starts, he's been a Top 5 TE this season so there's no reason to bail on him now.

Week 16 opponent: at New Orleans Saints
New Orleans' fantasy points allowed to TEs: 17th in the NFL (7.7 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Gonzalez had 10 targets against New Orleans in Week 10. He turned that into six receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. It is true that Gonzalez is coming off his worst fantasy performance where he was held to a single catch in Week 15. These things happen and there will be statistical outliers from time to time. Gonzo is a special brand of mind-numbing consistent so stick with him.

Week 15 opponent: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 24th in the NFL (8.7 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
I'll be the first to admit that I was skeptical that Gonzo would still be getting it done this late into his career. He's been relatively healthy and crazy consistent. He's averaging about six receptions for 62 yards and 0.5 TDs per game. There's no good reason to get in the way and sit him as Jacksonville has a below average defense against TEs.

Week 14 opponent: at Carolina Panthers
Carolina's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 16th in the NFL (7.7 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
There aren't many tight ends in the NFL producing at a higher level than the 35-year-old Gonzalez. He hasn't scored in his last two games but had nine receptions for 69 yards in Week 12 and seven receptions for 100 yards in Week 13. Gonzalez is on a roll and should be a starter across all formats.

Week 13 opponent: at Houston Texans
Houston's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 3rd in the NFL (4.7 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Since Week 8, Houston's defense has only given up 16 receptions for 169 yards to tight ends. That averages out to four receptions for 42 yards. When push comes to shove, Gonzalez has been great week in and week out. Only Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham have scored more TDs.

Week 12 opponent: vs. Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 14th in the NFL (7.9 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Gonzo has scored in each of his last three games. You can count on him for at least four receptions and 50 yards just about every week, which is a lot more than you can say about most tight ends this year. Only New England's Rob Gronkowski has more touchdowns.

Week 11 opponent: vs. Tennessee Titans
Tennessee's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 27th in the NFL (9.5 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
As sure as the sun rises, like clockwork, Gonzalez is as steady as they come. Gonzalez has only had one game with fewer than 50 receiving yards and no touchdowns. Otherwise, he's grabbing a handful of receptions, putting up yards and you guessed it, grabbing TDs while Atlanta is in the red zone.

Week 10 opponent: vs. New Orleans
New Orleans' fantasy points allowed to TEs: 23rd in the NFL (8.6 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
If the Falcons are inside the red zone, Gonzalez is the man. All of five of his touchdowns are from within 20 yards. His yardage isn't anything to get excited about (53 ypg) but he's getting about seven targets per week. The production should remain steady throughout the year and you just have to hope he scores to put him over the top.

Week 9 opponent: at Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis' fantasy points allowed to TEs: 8th in the NFL (6.7 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
If there's one facet to Indy's defense that is going well, they aren't being gashed by tight ends. Well, excluding Jimmy Graham who had his way against Colts' defenders. Gonzo missed practice Wednesday but he is expected to play regardless. He hasn't scored since Week 4 but he's still averaging five receptions for 50-plus yards every game which isn't bad at all considering this position's inconsistency. He's actually a Top 5 TE going by the numbers.

Week 7 opponent: vs. Detroit Lions
Detroit's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 10th most in the NFL (9.0 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Gonzo has cooled off in recent weeks but the targets were still there up until last week. He was averaging eight targets per game, but only had three in Week 6. It would be unwise to sit him, not yet anyway.

Week 6 opponent: vs. Carolina Panthers
Carolina's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 13th fewest in the NFL (7.5 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Gonzalez has enjoyed a resurgent season statistically. This likely has to do with defenses keying in on Julio Jones and opening up the short and intermediate routes that Gonzalez can still pick apart with ease. Since Jones is out, it may be best to go with your second option at tight end.

Week 5 opponent: vs. Green Bay Packers
Green Bay's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 10th most in the NFL (9.9 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Gonzalez has seen a bump in his production in this short 2011 season thus far. He already has four touchdown receptions to go along with 21 total catches and 229 yards. Gonzalez is a great sell-high trade option, but for now, no harm in riding out the hot streak.

Week 4 opponent: at Seattle Seahawks
Seattle's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 3rd fewest in the NFL (4.1 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Gonzalez continues to accumulate fantasy points like an old sponge that you've been using far too long at your kitchen sink. You're tempted to get a new one, but he's trustworthy and consistently gets the job done despite the fact that he smells funny. Use him for another week, he should be able to hold up.

Week 3 opponent: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 14th most in the NFL (8.6 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Tampa usually has solid coverage against tight ends. Their linebackers typically drop back to take away the middle of the field, leaving guys like Gonzalez to pick up minimal gains. Gonzo did have a great game against Philly last week so start him in hopes he keeps that momentum going.

Week 2 opponent: vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia's fantasy points allowed to TEs: 8th fewest in the NFL (3.9 ppg)
Fantasy Outlook
Atlanta moved the ball well in Week 1 against the Bears, it was just getting it into the end zone that was the problem. Gonzalez had five receptions for 72 yards in that game, which isn't a bad game for him by any means. If the Falcons find the redzone, that's when Gonzalez will shine. He's still a low-end TE1 so treat him as such this week.

Week 1 opponent: @ Chicago Bears
Chicago's fantasy points allowed to TEs (2010): 10th fewest in NFL
Fantasy Outlook
Cover 2 schemes usually create a lot of problems for tight ends. Since linebackers and safeties are so often in coverage, the middle of the field is occupied. Gonzalez doesn't have the speed to stretch the defense, but he'll do his best to his route running and timing with Matt Ryan to his best advantage. Gonzo has limited upside this week as a TE1, but he should be able to put up decent yardage.
