ESPN AFC East - [Full Article]

ESPN writer James Walker speculates about how the Patriots' WR corps will shake out:

Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney are locks. That leaves four roster spots, at most, for receivers. Deion Branch is in because he's a solid veteran who knows the offense well. I think you also keep Matthew Slater as the No. 7 receiver, mostly due to the fact he's a Pro Bowler on special teams and a team captain. The final two spots are really up in the air. I think Chad Ochocinco, Anthony Gonzalez and Donte Stallworth all have a realistic chance. Julian Edelman looks like the definite odd man out following the Gaffney signing.

INJURY STATUS: No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 15 @ New York.

OUTLOOK: Gaffney bounced back in a big way after his previous week's "goose egg" in the stat column. The Giants rank 22nd against the run and 28th against the pass. Gaffney has proven himself as a solid contributor #3 WR in 12+ team leagues. In the first meeting with the Giants, 3 receptions for 54 yards and 1 TD was the result.

Week 14 vs. New England

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney generated 0 receptions for 0 yards.

INJURY STATUS: No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 14 vs New England.

OUTLOOK: Gaffney visited Revis Island last week and did not enjoy his stay. In fact, it was his first zero catch game all season. Look for bounce back in week 14. The Patriots rank 31st against the pass and 10th against the run. Consider Gaffney #3 WR in 12+ team leagues. Possible revenge factor can be in play (facing his former team).

Week 13 vs New York Jets

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney generated 5 receptions for 72 yards.

INJURY STATUS: Foot - Limited practice. Questionable for Week 13 vs. N.Y. Jets

OUTLOOK: Another big game for Gaffney as he led all Redskins WRs and TEs in receiving. Over last four games, he's tallied 19 passes for 264 yards and two TDs. He remains s solid #3 WR play especially in 12+ team leagues. The Grossman-Gaffney University of Florida connection remains strong.

Week 12 at Seattle

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney generated 7 receptions for 115 yards and 1 TD.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 12 at Seattle.

OUTLOOK: Big game for Jabar Gaffney last Sunday. Consider poetic justice for his 2011 steady production. With the possibility of Santana Moss lining up as the other WR, Gaffney could benefit Moss' presence. Seattle ranks 10th against the pass and 18th against the run. They have not given up over passing 279 yards since week 5. Consider Gaffney a #3 WR in 12+ team leagues only.

Week 11 vs Dallas

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney generated 3 receptions for 37 yards and 0 TD.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 11 vs Dallas.

OUTLOOK: Two factors remain for Jabar Gaffney. One, he is the only healthy receiver. Two, he will produce 3-4 receptions and 35-45 yards per week. That said, consider him a #3 WR at best in leagues of 14-16 teams. Dallas ranks 13th against the pass and 10th against the run.

Week 10 @ Miami

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney generated 4 receptions for 40 yards and 1 TDs.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 10 vs Miami.

OUTLOOK: Gaffney produced an identical 4 reception for 40 yards (same in previous week) but this time he found the end zone. By no means is he making the most of his role as #1 WR but he is producing. Miami ranks 13th against the run and 27th against the pass. All this considered, he is a #3 WR in 12+ team league formats.

Week 9 vs San Francisco

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney notched 4 receptions for 40 yards and 0 TDs.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 9 vs San Francisco.

OUTLOOK: Another week of consistent production for Redskins WR Jabar Gaffney. Although his numbers do nothing to "wow" the fantasy GM, can be counted on for a few receptions/ yards if you are in desperate need of a bye week replacement or use in 14-16 team, 3 WR leagues. San Francisco ranks 1st against the run and 21st against the pass. Its safe to assume Gaffney will total 3-6 receptions for 30-60 yards max.

Week 8 @ Buffalo

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney notched 4 receptions for 68 yards and 0 TDs.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 8 @ Carolina.

OUTLOOK: Jabar Gaffney has played well the entire 2011 season but is he ready to assume the #1 role in the air game? Santana Moss’ fractured hand catapults Gaffney from supporting cast to the only cast. At best, consider Gaffney a #3 WR in 12+ leagues. Buffalo ranks 29th against the run and 30th against the pass.

Week 7 @ Carolina

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney notched 2 receptions for 55 yards and 0 TDs.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 7 at Carolina

OUTLOOK: Receptions were down for Jabar Gaffney last week but his yardage average remained in tact. Gaffney has proved himself as a consistent spot start for fantasy GMs in larger league with 3 WRs starting positions. The Panthers defense ranks 11th against the pass and 31st against the run. Consider Gaffney once again a great bye week fill-in in smaller leagues or #3 WR/ flex in larger leagues (12+ teams).

Week 6 vs Philadelphia

LAST WEEK: Bye week

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 6 vs. Philadelphia.

OUTLOOK: Much like teammate Santana Moss, Jabar Gaffney has remained consistent this season. Fantasy GMs should take note of his 3-5 receptions per game and the 40-60 yards that goes along with those receptions. This makes Gaffney a solid #3 WR play in larger leagues. The Birds Defense rank 7th against the pass and 28th against the run. As Moss will surely receive the most attention, Gaffney may continue his usual production,

Week 4 @ St. Louis

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney had 5 receptions for 60 yards and 0 TD.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 4 at St. Louis.

OUTLOOK: Gaffney has remained consistent the past few weeks. One more week of 4-5+ receptions and 50-60+ yards and Gaffney becomes a viable fantasy starter in various league formats. In the meantime, consider him a #3 WR for this Sunday. The Rams defense ranks #32 against the run and #19 against the pass.

Week 3 @ Dallas

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney had 5 receptions for 62 yards and 0 TD.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 3 at Dallas.

OUTLOOK: Gaffney has now defined his role as the Redskins #2 WR. Look for teams to roll coverage toward Santana Moss and TE Fred Davis. If Gaffney can beat one-on-one coverage, he will remained targeted and see balls come his way. The Cowboys rank #2 against the run #15 against the pass. Gaffney is a #3 WR (low-end #2) in 12+ team formats.

Week 2 vs Arizona

LAST WEEK: Jabar Gaffney had 3 receptions for 54 yards and 1 TD. He was targeted 7 times.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 2 vs Arizona.

OUTLOOK: Both Anthony Armstrong and Jabar Gaffney play critical roles. As they both put in solid performances, this will open up the running lanes for Tim Hightower and passing lanes for Santana Moss. Armstrong has a higher upside given his big play ability. Gaffney is more safety valve option and across the middle receiver. Both should only be considered #3 WR options in 12 team+ leagues.

Week 1 vs New York Giants

2010: Gaffney had 65 receptions for 875 yards and s TDs as a Denver Bronco.

INJURY STATUS: Full practice. No injury listed. Confirmed for Week 1 vs New York Giants.

OUTLOOK: Another Florida connection and teammate of Rex Grossman in college, the crafty veteran makes his Redskin debut against a injury riddled Giants secondary. Consider Gaffney a low-end #3 receiver in larger leagues with a possible upside if TE Chris Cooley does not play.
