"We'd like to (work out a long-term deal with RB Matt Forte)," Bears president and CEO Ted Phillips said. "But as Phil pointed out we obviously will at least consider placing the franchise tag on him. We don't have any intention of letting Matt hit the open market. We'll sit down with him privately, Phil will, and discuss what the plans are prior to the Feb. 20 franchise tag date."

Forte vs. Kansas City

At one point this season Matt Forte led the NFL in total yards from scrimmage, but of late the Bears top back has cooled off averaging just 60 yards rushing over his last three contests. Making matters worse, he has lost virtually all of his goal line carries to Marion Barber, so Forte owners are counting on those yards to help them get in the playoffs. The good news is that this week he faces the Chiefs and their 26th ranked rushing defense which gives up an average of over 133 yards per contest. After watching Caleb Hanie turn the ball over three times, expect the Bears to be even more reliant on the running game which should mean plenty of carries for Forte, which means Keep him in your lineup!
