Darren McFadden is "making cuts at full speed"
May 13, 2012, 10:32pm

The Contra Costa Times - [Full Article]

Running back Darren McFadden is on track to make a successful return to the field after missing the final nine games last season with a severely sprained foot.

That’s according to running backs coach Kelly Skipper, who offered the most in depth report on McFadden’s health since the injury occurred.

“The thing about Darren is, he didn’t have any major surgeries, so he’s able to come back her healthy and he’s playing at a high level right now and it’s offseason,” Skipper said. “So, that’s a good thing. He didn’t have surgery so he’s going to be off the whole spring. Nah, that’s not the case. He’s out here. You would never know he got hurt. He’s making cuts at full speed, everything.”

Week 17 - Michael Bush vs. San Diego Chargers

When Bush faced the Chargers earlier this season, he rushed for 157 yards, had three receptions for 85 yards, and scored a touchdown. It was his best performance of the season. The Raiders are fighting for a playoff spot, which means we could see a lot of Michael on Sunday. If you've been starting Bush since Darren McFadden was injured, keep him in the lineup as he should be a respectable RB1.

Week 16 - Michael Bush at Kansas City Chiefs

The last time Bush got a start at Arrowhead was the final week of the 2010 season, and he produced 171 total yards and a touchdown. He rushed for 99 yards against Kansas City earlier this season when he came on in relief of Darren McFadden in week seven, and McFadden hasn't played since that fateful Sunday afternoon. With the Raiders desperately needing a win, Bush will be a big part of their plans and projects as a solid RB1.

Week 15 - Michael Bush vs. Detroit Lions

Bush produced last week despite the fact Green Bay routed the Raiders. He left Lambeau Field with 97 total yards and a touchdown. With Darren McFadden still out, Bush remains an RB1, especially against a suspect Detroit run defenses.

Week 14 – Michael Bush at Green Bay Packers

After a string of impressive performances, Bush’s hot streak ended in Miami, as the Dolphins held him to 45 total yards and zero touchdowns. Green Bay allows 105.1 rushing yards per game, and the Raiders would love to get their ground attack going to keep Aaron Rodgers off the field. While this isn’t a dream matchup for Bush, he should be started as a low-level RB1/high-level RB2 due to volume alone.

Week 13 – Michael Bush at Miami Dolphins

Last Sunday Bush was held in check somewhat by a tough Bears defense, but got the job done in the end, racking up 93 total yards and a touchdown as the Raiders won a close one over Chicago 25-20.

While Miami has a formidable run defense, Bush has been an ace for fantasy owners since Darren McFadden was injured and there’s no reason to expect a sudden drop in production in South Florida. Leave him in your lineup as a solid RB1.

Week 12 – Michael Bush vs. Chicago Bears

Bush has been on a tear since Darren McFadden has been out. He rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown last Sunday in Minnesota, and also caught two passes for 20 yards. Although Chicago has a respectable run defense, Bush’s upside remains intact as he may be asked to carry a larger load with Taiwan Jones out and Oakland suffering from injuries at wide receiver. Bush has been an RB1 over the last three weeks, and he’ll be one again come Sunday.

Week 11 – Michael Bush at Minnesota Vikings

When Darren McFadden sits, Michael Bush shines. He tore through the Chargers defense in week 10, amassing an awesome total of 242 total yards. Bush also scored on a two-yard run. McFadden is expected to miss another game, making Bush a must-start even though Minnesota allows under 100 yards per game on the ground. He’ll find a way to get it done and can be classified as an RB1.

Week 10 – Michael Bush at San Diego Chargers

With Darren McFadden out on Sunday, Bush gave fantasy owners a nice day, finishing with 129 total yards and a receiving touchdown. The consensus seems to be that McFadden will miss Thursday night’s game in San Diego, which means fantasy owners need to give Bush another start. The Chargers have given up just four rushing touchdowns, but are allowing 120 rushing yards per game. And Bush has a track record of success against the Chargers. In two starts in 2010 vs. San Diego, Bush ran for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

Hello HotlantaDivas:

Jones will be used as a change-of-pace back. Bush is going to get most of the carries.

Week 9 – Michael Bush vs. Denver Broncos

The last time Darren McFadden missed a start was the 2010 season finale, and Bush took advantage of McFadden’s absence by rushing for 137 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. He also caught four passes for 34 yards. Since Bush will have the largest role in the Oakland backfield against the Broncos, he needs to be in your lineup.

Week 7 – Michael Bush vs. Kansas City Chiefs

With the Raiders relying on the run even more than usual last Sunday following an unfortunate injury to quarterback Jason Campbell, Bush had a season-high 10 carries as Oakland conquered Cleveland 24-17. A run-heavy approach is anticipated again this weekend as Oakland will be easing new quarterback Carson Palmer into the lineup. Given that and Bush’s ability to produce touchdowns on the goal line, he can be used as a flex if you are in a larger league.

Week 6 – Michael Bush vs. Cleveland Browns

Bush’s three game touchdown streak was snapped last Sunday in Houston. With Cleveland having allowed just one rushing touchdown this season, the Browns have the potential to take away Bush’s best trait, his ability to convert the goal line plunges.

Nevertheless, the Browns surrender over 100 yards per game on the ground and Bush is a potentially acceptable choice as an RB3 or flex player with six teams getting the week off.

Week 5 – Michael Bush at Houston Texans

Bush remains a touchdown machine. He scored his third touchdown of the season last Sunday. However, he’s not offering much beyond that, with 191 total yards so far in 2011. With six teams on bye, the idea starting Bush in a touchdown-heavy league has merit. In most formats, however, you can do better.

Week 4 – Michael Bush vs. New England Patriots

Over the past two weeks, Bush has produced a pair of touchdown plunges. But outside of his work at the goal line, he hasn’t had much of a role as Darren McFadden continues to play at a very high level. If you are in a touchdown-heavy league and need help, you could give him a try, but in most formats, Bush shouldn’t be played against the Patriots.

Week 3 – Michael Bush vs. New York Jets

Bush managed a touchdown last weekend against the Bills, but had only four carries as Darren McFadden had a huge afternoon. With the tough Jets defense coming to Oakland, Bush is best left on the sidelines.

Week 2 – Michael Bush at Denver Broncos

As long as Darren McFadden remains healthy, Bush will stay in a complimentary role, although he did make appearances when the Raiders were near the goal line Monday night. Overall, he had nine carries for 30 yards in Oakland’s 23-20 victory over Denver. Owners in deep leagues can give him flex consideration this week, but overall he’s not a respectable starter in most formats.

Week 1 – Michael Bush at Denver Broncos
If we were at a later point in the season when bye weeks and injuries are causing mayhem, Bush would be worth starting. Denver’s run defense is inept and Bush scored three touchdowns against the Broncos last year. He’s probably not going to get enough touches this week to be a viable starter in most leagues given the majority of fantasy teams are at full strength, but if you are in a really deep league or frantically trying to fill a flex position, you could do worse.
