Tampa Bay's optimism about Rookie WR Arrelious Benn (6-foot-1, 206 pounds) stems from his productivity as a freshman and a sophomore.

"He fits in wherever you may need him," Morris said. "He played in the slot in college before. He was featured as an outside receiver as a freshman. He did both as a sophomore. He has the ability to do all those things.

"When he's coming in here, you're talking about (filling) the void left by Antonio at the X position, so naturally he will probably start off there. We're excited to have him and get him the ball. We're excited to see what he can do with the ball, and here we go, a playmaker."

Arrelious Benn , a 6-1 220 pounder out of Illinois. Benn should immediately slot in as the Bucs #1 WR and provide a big target for developing QB Josh Freeman .

The Pittsburgh Steelers reacquired quarterback Byron Leftwich by dealing a seventh-round draft pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a sign they expect Ben Roethlisberger to be suspended for the start of the season.

Leftwich backed up Roethlisberger in 2008, when the Steelers won the Super Bowl. He knows offensive coordinator Bruce Arians' system and could be ready to play Sept. 12 when the Steelers open against the Atlanta Falcons.

Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for wide receiver Terrell Owens , said Monday that he's in "active discussions" with three NFL teams interested in signing the 14-year veteran.

Rosenhaus said he's attending the NFL Annual Meeting this week to meet with interested teams but that they have "asked me not to identify them, on or off the record."


Rosenhaus did say that the Cincinnati Bengals, who brought in Owens for a visit but signed Antonio Bryant , likely are no longer a destination for his client.

"I don't think that's a realistic possibility," Rosenhaus said, given the salary and starting status that he believes Owens commands.

Rosenhaus reiterated several times that Owens is still a "starter," that they would "be patient" and a deal might not come together until "right before training camp", which some might take as an indication of the level of interest in the free-agent receiver.

Rosenhaus also said that despite some reports that Owens wouldn't play for less than the $6.5 million he made with the Buffalo Bills last season, there "is no set number" that they are seeking or demanding in negotiations.

"We're very flexible," Rosenhaus said.

Antonio Bryant has agreed to a four-year deal with the Bengals worth $28 million. With incentives the deal could go to $29 million.

The eight-year veteran was considered to be the top unrestricted free agent wideout. Last year with Tampa Bay, he was hampered due to two knee injuries that happened during training camp. He played 13 games and had 39 receptions for 600 yards, an average of 15.4 yards per catch, with four touchdowns. In 2008, he enjoyed a career year with 83 receptions for 1,248 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Eagles traded WR Reggie Brown to the Buccaneers on Monday. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported that the trade is for a sixth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, according to a league source.

The Bucs are looking for additional receivers after coach Raheem Morris told the St. Petersburg Times on Thursday that the team was moving on from Antonio Bryant , its leading receiver in 2008. Bryant will visit the Bengals on Tuesday.

Brown has been a disappointment for the Eagles over the past two seasons. After posting a career-high 61 receptions in 2006, he scored the most touchdowns in his career (nine) the following season. Since then, however, Brown has just 27 receptions.

The Eagles gave WR Jason Avant a five-year contract extension Monday.

Bucs coach Raheem Morris was already making plans for the offseason Monday, looking forward to the draft and planning to build around quarterback Josh Freeman.

"I've got a feeling that Year 2 will be a lot less dramatic for me," Morris said at his news conference.

For Morris, the suspense ended when he was summoned to the Glazers' office later in the afternoon and learned he would return for the 2010 season.

"We are committed to the plan that we began 12 months ago with Coach Morris, and we look forward to building on the pieces that were put in place this season," vice president Joel Glazer said in a statement released Monday night.

Bucs WR Michael Clayton said he could have started against Atlanta on Sunday, but coaches elected to limit him in the season finale.

Clayton sustained a knee injury and missed three straight games late this season. Although Clayton was not listed on Tampa Bay's injury report last week, he believed the team's decision to bench him for WR Maurice Stovall during a 20-10 loss was mainly a health precaution.

Falcons PK Matt Bryant , who kicked for the Bucs last season, will test his hamstring in warm-ups this morning. If he can't go, the Falcons signed kicker Steve Hauschka, who was released earlier this season by Baltimore. Bryant hasn't been around the team because of the death of his father.
