Torry Holt
said last month that he wanted to play on a team with an elite quarterback. That wish has been granted.
The veteran wide receiver will catch passes from quarterback Tom Brady
, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, after signing a one-year, $1.7 million contract with the New England Patriots, a league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora on Tuesday.
The Patriots needed depth at receiver because of questions still surrounding the health of Wes Welker
, who suffered a knee injury during the 2009 regular-season finale. Holt provides a veteran presence opposite Randy Moss
for New England, which also recently brought back David Patten
.
Holt, 33, spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who released him in February after he posted career lows in receptions (51) and yards (722) and failed to score a touchdown for the first time in 11 NFL seasons. However, Holt's 63-yard reception during a Dec. 13 game against the Miami Dolphins was the Jaguars' longest of 2009.

TE Alge Crumpler
's camp has informed the Tennessee Titans that they've come to an agreement with the New England Patriots, according to a source.
Crumpler likely comes to New England to primarily fill the in-line blocking role, with a receiving threat still needed at the position. That could be filled in the draft, or with a pass-catching threat like Chicago's Greg Olsen
via trade.

, formerly of the New England Patriots, to a multiyear contract. Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported it was a three-year deal worth $12 million, including $6.35 million guaranteed. Hours later, the Browns released Steve Heiden

.

Wes Welker underwent successfully knee surgery

Boston Herald - [Full Article]
As expected, Patriots receiver Wes Welker
underwent surgery today at Massachusetts General Hospital, a source told The Herald. The goal was to repair his torn knee ligaments in his left knee.
As you read last month, Welker was waiting and waiting to have surgery, as he chilled while his MCL got a little better. It was 30 days from when Welker tore his knee against the Texans.
The surgery was performed by Thomas Gill, the team doctor for the Patriots. Colleague Karen Guregian was told the surgery was a grand success. So that’s good for Wes and the Patriots.
And now, it’s time to rehab.

Terrell Owens
turned 36 in December. He signed only a one-year contract with the Bills that brought an uneven and ultimately disappointing season. Even as he talks of playing another two or three years in pursuit of an elusive Super Bowl ring, he recognizes that Rice's individual records are out of reach for him.
He blames — who else? — his quarterbacks.
"I know hands-down I'd be close to Jerry Rice
's records if I had been with quality quarterbacks like he had," Owens said. "He had Joe Montana and he finished with Steve Young. That wasn't a dropoff.
"Say I had been with a guy like Tom Brady
, Peyton Manning
or Drew Brees
all of my career. Are you kidding me?"
It is a sweet thought for a superstar in the twilight of a bittersweet career.
