“He’s a quarterback,” Broncos HC Josh McDaniels said of Tim Tebow
Saturday afternoon after wrapping up his second draft as Denver’s coach. “He’s a quarterback. That’s all he’s going to do.”
McDaniels and Tebow will begin the process of making the former Florida legend an NFL-quality quarterback next week in a rookie-only minicamp.
McDaniels reiterated again Saturday that Tebow will be competing for the job that is currently owned by Kyle Orton
.
“Like everybody, he will be competing for a job,” McDaniels said.”I don’t care if a guy is a rookie. If he’s earned the job, he’ll play. That goes for any position. But I’ll say this, he has a long way to go to get there. But he is starting the process.”

Denver trades up for Tim Tebow
Thursday, April 22, 2010, 10:22pm
Denver traded up with the Baltimore Ravens to select Florida QB Tim Tebow
25th overall in the biggest shock of the first round. No one had Tebow going ahead of Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen
, and very few had him going ahead of Texas QB Colt McCoy
.
It would be a shock if Tebow were starting NFL games this season, as most view him as a project QB, but Kyle Orton
and Brady Quinn
are obviously not the answer in Denver. Look for Tebow to get involved immediately in some packages, but don't expect him in a starting role any time soon.

Broncos TE Tony Scheffler
and QB Kyle Orton
have signed their one-year RFA tenders with the team.
McDaniels: Orton's the starter

Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels says there's "no question" Kyle Orton
is the team's starting quarterback, according to The Denver Post. But he's leaving room for newly acquired Brady Quinn
to compete for the job.
Earlier this month, the Broncos acquired the former first-round draft pick from the Cleveland Browns for fullback Peyton Hillis
, a 2011 sixth-round draft pick and a conditional pick in 2012. That raised questions in Denver about who would be the starter in 2010.
But McDaniels, speaking at the NFL owners' meetings in Orlando, said Orton has earned the right to begin camp as the Broncos' starter.
"He's a guy who made the most of an opportunity he was given last year," McDaniels said, according to the report. "Kyle started all but one game for us last year, and he's got the respect of his teammates and coaches and we look forward to him improving. Now Brady's here competing, and as always, players determine their roles by what they do on the field."

Brady Quinn
will get a chance to start over in Denver. Whether he'll get to start is up in the air.
The Broncos acquired the former first-round draft pick from the Cleveland Browns for fullback Peyton Hillis
, a 2011 sixth-round draft pick and a conditional pick in 2012.
The teams announced the trade Sunday and said the deal is pending physicals.
Ostensibly, Quinn will compete with Kyle Orton
for the Broncos' starting job, although coach Josh McDaniels was unavailable Sunday to comment on the trade, according to a team spokesman.

The Denver Broncos have put a first-round tender on wide receiver Brandon Marshall
, the team announced Wednesday.
The Broncos also placed first-round tenders on starting quarterback Kyle Orton
and right guard Chris Kuper.
If another team makes a contract offer to a player with a first-round tender on him during the free-agency period beginning Friday, the player's current team has seven days to match it, or it will receive a first-round draft pick as compensation.

In his first interview since the Broncos faded from a 6-0 start to an 8-8 finish, Pat Bowlen, the team's owner since 1984, addressed his club's hot-button issues with The Denver Post on Super Bowl eve Saturday.
Bowlen said he would like star receiver Brandon Marshall
to remain with the Broncos, but wouldn't block a trade if rookie coach Josh McDaniels feels it would benefit the team. Bowlen revealed the plan is for Kyle Orton
to remain the Broncos' quarterback, but the team hopes to select another quarterback in the upcoming draft.

Kyle Orton
will likely be a restricted free agent at season's end, depending on how the league's labor negotiations go. It means he can solicit offers from other teams, and the Broncos will have the right to match any offer he gets. The Broncos could also tender him a one-year deal. Or they could commit to him for the long-term, if they are convinced he's a player who can lead them forward.
"No question about it, I want to be here," Orton said. "The community's been great to us — we love Colorado, we love living here and the organization has been great to me, so I really don't see why I wouldn't be back.
"I'll just let the business take care of itself, but you have to worry about it. My wife wants to move into a house; we haven't lived in a house for a long time. Whatever's going to happen, we want it to happen so we can kind of settle down and really take root here."
More on the Brandon Marshall situation

Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels decided to bench wide receiver Brandon Marshall
for the regular-season finale after he was late to a scheduled therapy session with the Denver medical staff for treatment of a hamstring injury the team already believed he was exaggerating, according to multiple team sources.
Both Marshall and tight end Tony Scheffler
have been advised they will not be permitted on the sideline or in the locker room when the Broncos play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in a game with playoff implications.
The Broncos sent Marshall for an MRI on his hamstring after he complained of the injury during Wednesday's practice. According to team sources, the test indicated that Marshall's hamstring was healthy.
The latest showdown between the head coach and the Pro Bowl receiver actually began the week before when Marshall excused himself from practice, complaining the cold weather was making it difficult for him to breathe.
Then, as the team reviewed tape of its loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, in which Marshall dropped several passes, McDaniels mentioned that certain plays had to be made. Marshall apparently felt he was being unfairly singled out for criticism.
According to Broncos sources, the problems with Marshall and Scheffler came after team leaders including Brian Dawkins, Champ Bailey
, Kyle Orton
, DJ Williams and Daniel Graham
all met with McDaniels on Monday and encouraged him to take a hardline approach in preparing the team to finish the season against the Chiefs.
That development, combined with a home loss to the Raiders, compelled McDaniels to emphasize the need for accountability in a full team meeting Wednesday. It was later that day when Marshall complained about his hamstring.
Scheffler was presumably demoted to the scout team after he was overheard telling teammates that he couldn't wait for Denver's season to end.
