The Barlow trade to the Jets Sunday has a huge fantasy domino effect across a number teams.
While the Jets front office is saying, “he will come in and compete for playing time,” Barlow’s signing is a clear signal that
Curtis Martin is out of the picture and Jet RBs Derrick Blaylock and
Cedric Houston will not be asked to carry the load.
Move Barlow up, Martin, Houston and Blaylock down.
Further, with Barlow in New York, second-year RB Frank Gore becomes the clear go-to for the 49ers and his fantasy value takes a nice bump up.
The trade also impacts the Falcons RB core with T.J. Duckett now very likely not going to New York. This in turn hurts rookie RB
Jerious Norwood’s immediate fantasy value and does not help Warrick Dunn’s value.
In five years with the 49ers, Barlow started 30 games and produced a career-high 1,024 yards on the ground in 2004.
The 49ers will now look to Michael Robinson, Maurice Hicks and Terry Jackson
to backup Gore. Bump all three backups up a little.
