As the nation zoomed in on the Queen City Sunday night, the hot lights of scrutiny came down further upon Carson Palmer and his wounded knee. New Hall of Famer and NBC color analyst John Madden reported that Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis stated that if Palmer didn’t at least play a series in Friday night’s exhibition at Buffalo, Palmer would not be the starter for Week 1.

The announcement by Madden stunned local media and fans that have been under the impression that if Palmer entered the game August 28th at home versus Green Bay, the 2002 Heisman Trophy winner would be the starter for the first regular season game at home versus the Chiefs.

The situation will be closely watched because Palmer could make or break an owner’s season.

Jungle Notes: Wide receiver Chris Henry, who led the league in off-season arrests, also led the Bengals with six catches on Sunday night. Henry is a electric athlete and fantasy owners who are willing to invest a late-round pick in the oft-troubled third receiver should be wary of a rumored potential four-game suspension for the wayward talent …

Backup running back Chris Perry missed the first preseason game with Washington this weekend due to a bad ankle. Perry, who relies on elusiveness as a third-down back, may lose his second-string role to Kenny Watson early in the season …

The Bengal defense led the league with 31 interceptions last season and are one of the few teams in the league that can boast of four-deep at the cornerback position with Tory James and Deltha O’Neal as starters with Keiwan Ratliff and rookie Johnathan Joseph pushing the starters. If Sam Adams makes a difference in the run defense, look for Cincinnati to push it’s way up from the bottom third in fantasy defenses to the middle of the pack …
