Quarterback TOM BRADY of the New England Patriots, linebacker DAVID HARRIS of the New York Jets and kicker JEFF REED of the Pittsburgh Steelers are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played on NFL Kickoff 2009 Weekend (September 10, 13-14), the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: QB TOM BRADY, NEW ENGLAND

  • Brady completed 39 of 53 passes (73.6 percent) for 378 yards with two touchdowns versus one interception and a 97.8 passer rating in a 25-24 win against the Bills.
  • Brady completed 11 of 13 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns on the Patriots' final two scoring drives.
  • His 39 completions are the most in his career in a non-overtime game.
  • Posted his 24th career game with 300 or more passing yards.
  • He has won 21 consecutive regular-season games.
  • In his 10thseason from Michigan, this is Brady's 13th career Player of the Week Award. Brady last won the award in Week 17 of 2007.

DEFENSE: LB DAVID HARRIS, NEW YORK JETS

· Harris registered a team-high 12 tackles, one sack and one pass defensed in a 24-7 road win against the Texans on Kickoff Weekend.

· Harris helped limit the Texans' offense to 183 total yards (145 passing yards, 38 rushing yards).

· He recorded his first sack of the season in the third quarter taking down quarterback MATT SCHAUB.

· Sparked a Jets defensive unit that did not allow an offensive touchdown for the first time since November 9, 2008 against the St. Louis Rams.

· In his third year from Michigan, this is Harris' first career Player of the Week Award. The last Jets linebacker to be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week was linebacker ERIC BARTON in 2004 (Week 15).

SPECIAL TEAMS: K JEFF REED, PITTSBURGH STEELERS

· Reed helped the Steelers start the 2009 season on a winning note by kicking a game-winning field goal in a 13-10 overtime victory against the Tennessee Titans.

· Reed tied the game at 10 with 2:57 remaining in the fourth quarter with a 32-yard field goal.

· His 33-yard field goal with 10:28 remaining in overtime gave the defending champs their seventh consecutive win on Kickoff Weekend (longest active streak in NFL).

· Reed recorded his eighth career game-winning field goal in the regular season.

· In his eighth season from North Carolina, this is Reed's fourth career Player of the Week Award. He most recently won the award in 2008 (Week 4).

· Baltimore quarterback JOE FLACCO, who completed 26 of 43 passes (60.5 percent) for 307 yards with three touchdowns versus one interception and a 95.8 passer rating in a 38-24 win over the Chiefs.

· Pittsburgh wide receiver SANTONIO HOLMES, who hauled in nine receptions for 131 yards (14.6 average) with one touchdown in a 13-10 overtime win against Tennessee.

· New York running back THOMAS JONES, who gained 107 yards (5.4 average) on 20 carries with two touchdowns in a 24-7 win over the Texans.

· New England wide receiver RANDY MOSS, who tied a career high with 12 receptions for 141 yards (11.8 average).

· Denver quarterback KYLE ORTON, who completed 17 of 28 passes (60.7 percent) for 243 yards with one touchdown and a 100.7 passer rating in a 12-7 win over the Bengals.

· Pittsburgh quarterback BEN ROETHLISBERGER, who completed 33 of 43 passes (76.7 percent) for 363 yards with one touchdown versus two interceptions and 89.6 passer rating.

· San Diego quarterback PHILIP RIVERS, who completed 24 of 36 passes (66.7 percent) for 252 yards with one touchdown versus one interception and a 84.5 passer rating in a 24-20 win over the Raiders.

· New York Jets rookie quarterback MARK SANCHEZ, who completed 18 of 31 passes (58.1 percent) for 272 yards with one touchdown versus one interception and a 84.3 passer rating.

· Denver wide receiver BRANDON STOKLEY, who hauled in game-winning 87-yard touchdown reception.

· Indianapolis wide receiver REGGIE WAYNE, who totaled 10 receptions for 162 yards (16.2 average) with one touchdown in a 14-12 win over Jacksonville.

Other nominees for AFC Defensive Player of Week 1:

· Jacksonville rookie cornerback DEREK COX, who recorded five tackles, one interception and a fumble recovery in a 14-12 loss against the Colts.

· Denver safety BRIAN DAWKINS, who posted 11 tackles.

· Baltimore linebacker JARRET JOHNSON, who recorded three tackles and a career-high two sacks.

· Pittsburgh safety TROY POLAMALU, who recorded six tackles and one interception.

· Buffalo defensive end AARON SCHOBEL, who posted his first career interception-touchdown return in a 25-24 loss to the Patriots.

Other nominees for AFC Special Teams Player of Week 1:

· Cleveland kick returner-wide receiver JOSHUA CRIBBS, who recorded a 67-yard punt return-touchdown in a 34-20 loss against Minnesota. Cribbs also added six kick returns for 140 yards (23.3 average).

· Denver kicker MATT PRATER, who made both field goal attempts (48, 50).

· Kansas City safety JON MC GRAW, who blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown in a 38-24 loss to the Ravens.
