The 90’s Are Over!
by Tim Ferrell
So you’re really into fantasy football? Welcome to the club.
The problem is...
YOU'VE NEVER USED ALL YOUR FANTASY
FOOTBALL SKILLS. . . even if you think you have!
Years ago fantasy football was as simple as "touchdown only" scoring. Since those dark ages, plenty of tweaks and a myriad of scoring systems have flourished.
Draft, auction, keeper, dynasty leagues, yardage scoring and performance scoring are all alive and well.
So, "what kind of league are you in?"
What? You’re still drafting in August or early September and hoping the season turns out your way?
A BRIEF HISTORY LESSON
Fantasy Football was born back in the 60’s. A group of friends and associates got together and drafted a team. They committed to their roster and tried to ride it all season long. That made plenty of sense back then, things like the Internet and cable NFL were pure science fiction in the 60’s. Of course, in the late 90’s things started to change.
DRAFTING – We All Love it But...
If you’re a casual fantasy manager with limited NFL knowledge, a friendly draft is probably for you. Going to a draft with friends can be a blast, and it’s a great way to have fun that night. In a local league with buddies, it’s always fun beating certain guys in a head-to-head matchup. It's part of the reason we all love fantasy football. But lets face it, after the draft, so many things can happen and more often then not, regardless how much you know about the NFL, you have few ways to take full advantage. Often times the waiver wire is a crapshoot -- maybe you get the hot player, maybe you don’t. And for all the talk, how
many real win-win trades actually happen in your league?
So, what if fantasy football was starting all over right now?
Would we really want to limit ourselves to a roster and try to ride it all season long? Probably
not - especially when an immensely superior way exists. A way to leverage all your knowledge, all season long!
Last year "Tournament-Style" Fantasy Football exploded onto the scene with a groundbreaking approach -- a way to play Fantasy Football that tests your skills all season long and gives you complete control.
SO WHAT'S TOURNAMENT-STYLE?
It’s a new way to play that appeals to the heart of our fantasy goal - who has the ability to pick the right
players.
Tournament-style levels the playing field so that "league size" does not matter and no one gains any advantage via the random draw of a number from a hat.
Tournament-style is a way to play that gives you the most control you could ever have over your team's destiny.
Simply put - Start any NFL player you want each week, but only once per season.
A simple statement that mushrooms in possibilities upon further thought. Every team begins with no roster because there is no draft. Every team starts at the exact same place with the exact same chances to win. You like Peyton Manning? You got him. Tomlinson your man? You got him as well.
Think about it. No injury report woes about what "questionable"
means this week. No losing your first draft pick for the season due
to injury. No more worries about waiver wire hounds that spent
week two last year running around the office screaming, "I got Droughns! I got Droughns! Nyah-nyah!"
Every week you will get to select a new team from the entire
NFL so long as you have not used the player. Same chances as all
other teams and the only advantage you have is you.
SO WHERE CAN I PLAY THIS COOL FORMAT?
Cue the music, enter the Fantasy Football Tournament of Champions (FFTOC).
The FFTOC is the home of Tournament-Style fantasy football.
You can play in a national tournament or run your own private
league.
You can enter a national contest for as little as $50,
prizes go to $50,000 and payouts are up to 96%.
The FFTOC has several cool features. You’ll be arranged
into a bracket of six teams and if you beat those other five teams,
you'll already double your money before the playoffs start.
Or, you can use the strategy of holding back stud players while still
making the playoffs so you can use them in the
"start from scratch" dash for the championship.
Fantasy Football has finally evolved!
