NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
With Jace Amaro on IR for the year, Jeff Cumberland now takes over as the Jets starting tight end. Which means he will see the most snaps and if the Jets decide to throw to him, he could help your fantasy team on certain days. His biggest asset could be the red zone, although we have not see that much in his career. His new role as the starter could change that, however.

Fantasy Downside
Cumberland is not a pass-catching tight end. His career-high was 29 catches in 2012 and he won't be part of the Jets game plan with any regularity.

Bottom Line
Becoming the starter increases Cumberland's fantasy value, but only to the point of providing bench depth. I wouldn't even consider him a sleeper at this point, but the amount of snaps he gets will give him a chance to contribute in deeper leagues.

NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15: Cumberland vs Titans
Jeff Cumberland only has three targets in his last six games and even with rookie Jace Amaro out last week, he still had zero. The matchup is good, but Cumberland is not as a fantasy option. He shouldn't even be on your bench.

NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14: Cumberland vs Vikings
With Jace Amaro out with a concussion, Jeff Cumberland will be the primary tight end, but that doesn't mean much as the Jets offense is intent on running the ball. No fantasy points for blocking which will be Cumberland's primary role. Keep him on the bench.

NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5: Cumberland vs. Chargers
Jeff Cumberland is still getting twice as many snaps as Jace Amaro for blocking purposes but that's not going to help your fantasy team. Cumberland is not an option.

NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4: Cumberland vs Lions
Jeff Cumberland still is getting the majority of the snaps for the Jets, but that's because he is the primary blocking tight end. His targets were six, but that total was elevated by the fact Geno Smith threw the ball 43 times.

Jace Amaro is the future at tight end for the Jets and we saw a glimpse of that on Monday. Cumberland's value is falling as Amaro's rises. Neither is a fantasy starter at this time.

NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3: Cumberland vs Bears
After a decent Week 1, Jeff Cumberland only had one catch last week. He still dwarfed the snaps compared to rookie Jace Amaro (67-22), but eventually that gap will close. If he is getting the snaps now and not producing, there isn't much there in the future. Keep him on the waiver wire.

NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2: Cumberland vs Packers
Jeff Cumberland did have four catches for 50 yards, so it appears the Jace Amaro will have to wait a little bit. Cumberland had 55 snaps compared to 27 for Amaro. It appears you should have Cumberland on the roster instead of Amaro, but not your starting lineup for Week 2.

NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1: Cumberland vs Raiders
We don't expect much from Jeff Cumberland and in fact, many think his days as the starter are limited. Jace Amaro is waiting in the wings and will probably be the top producer at tight end eventually.

Overall, we don't expect any of the Jets tight ends to be game breakers. They will get some targets here and there and occasionally get into the end zone. For Week 1, Cumberland is a TE3 which will not be helpful in most leagues. This might be his highest rating all season.
