OAK WR Brandon LaFell - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Arizona Cardinals

The Raiders are so bad at this point in the season that Oakland is a 5.5-point underdog to a two-win team this week. The Raiders implied team total of 17.5 points is also the lowest on the slate this week by a full two points. That's not a recipe for fantasy success. The Cardinals are sixth in the league in aFPA to WRs but only 27th against RBs, potentially foreshadowing a run-heavy attack for Oakland this week. That doesn't bode well for a receiving group where none of the wideouts have averaged five targets per game over the past two weeks. Running back Jalen Richard and tight end Jared Cook are the primary pass catchers in this horrific offense. No Oakland receiver is a fantasy consideration.

OAK WR Brandon LaFell - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at San Francisco 49ers (Thursday)

Here's how the targets played out in Oakland's first game without Amari Cooper: Jalen Richard 8, Jared Cook 5, Jordy Nelson 4, Seth Roberts 4, Brandon LaFell 4, Doug Martin 2, Keith Smith 1. Feels like Washington West, huh? Derek Carr, like Alex Smith, did not heavily target his receivers. Four targets just aren't enough for us to consider LaFell a fantasy factor in Week 9.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Over the last two games, Brandon LaFell has averaged 7.5 targets per game. The Bengals have been trying to find a nice complement to AJ Green and the veteran LaFell has might be the one that sticks, at least until rookie John Ross can show he can take that role.

Indianapolis is 29th in aFPA to wide receivers so the matchup is very favorable. With Ross returning, keep an eye on snaps and targets. LaFell doesn't rank high enough to play Week 8.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Brandon LaFell has had success in the NFL and will be given opportunities again with Cincinnati in 2017. He caught 64 passes last season for 862 yards and 6 touchdowns. No doubt he will get on the field, especially early in the season.

Fantasy Downside

The Bengals are very excited about rookie John Ross and he will no doubt take catches away from LaFell and Tyler Boyd. Plus, if A.J. Green stays healthy, LaFell's numbers won't get close to what he did last year, as a lot of that production came when Green was hurt. The numbers looked decent last year, but it will really be tough for him to come close to repeating them.

2017 Bottom Line

LaFell is a late-round draft pick. If you can get him as your fifth receiver, he could be a sleeper if Ross struggles to adjust to the NFL. But LaFell's production will probably be cut in half unless Green or Ross get hurt.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 17, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Baltimore
With A.J. Green out for the season, Brandon LaFell is the No. 1 target and we saw that last week when he had six catches for 130 yards and a touchdown. Somebody has to catch the football for Cincinnati, and LaFell has shown some bright spots at time.

LaFell faces Baltimore this week, who is 25th in aFPA to wide receivers. That good matchup pushes LaFell to a high-end WR2 ranking for Week 17.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Cleveland
Brandon LaFell had one of his best games of the season last week, catching five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. The TD was his first since Week 7. The Bengals need someone to step up in A.J. Green's absence, and LaFell did so last week.

LaFell also had a strong performance in last meeting against the Browns (the last time he had a TD before last week), but the weather could be snowy in Cleveland, which could limit the passing game to an extent. Although LaFell played well last week, we recommend to keep him on the bench in Week 14.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 13, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs Philadelphia
Brandon LaFell should see another high target day with A.J. Green still out this week. He was targeted nine times in Week 12, but only caught three passes for 38 yards. More production is needed to consider LaFell for the starting lineup.

The Eagles come to Cincinnati ranked 17th in aFPA to wide receivers. Even with a neutral matchup, LaFell needs to show us he is going to catch more footballs moving forward to be considered a fantasy starter. Keep him on the bench.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 8, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs Washington
Brandon LaFell has four touchdowns in the last three games, and that could continue has opposing defenses are paying attention to A.J. Green with double coverage in the red zone. LaFell also caught four passes for 83 yards, so he is putting solid numbers when he gets some opportunities. He still has been inconsistent with his numbers every week.

LaFell will face a Redskins defense this week that is 15th in aFPA to wide receivers. The good news is LaFell is clearly the No. 2 receiver ahead of Tyler Boyd, so targets should keep coming his way. Start him as a low-end WR3 or flex for Week 8.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 7, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs Cleveland
After a breakout game against Dallas, Brandon LaFell's numbers fell to two catches for 13 yards last week. The Bengals have really focused the passing game on A.J. Green and RB Giovani Bernard, so it's hard to predict which Bengals wide receiver is next on the pecking order.

LaFell deserves some consideration because of the matchup against an awful Cleveland pass defense, but not enough to give him a start. Keep LeFell on the bench for Week 7.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Miami
Brandon LaFell has been quiet through three weeks with his new team. He has been targeted 15 times, which has produced nine receptions for 164 yards and zero touchdowns. The good news is LaFell has been getting more snaps than rookie Tyler Boyd, but that could change as the season progresses.

Although the Bengals are treating LaFell as the No. 2 receiver right now (and they play the Dolphins who have not been good against wide receivers this season), LaFell still stays on your bench for Week 4.
